TVIntheDesert 185 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 This past Saturday night, Current TV 2.0---errr---Pivot TV launched their original "news magazine" series with the daughter of Arizona Senator John McCain, Meghan. For the most part, it was not seen by many, but the social media buzz was, for what I saw, pretty negative. As for myself, I did happen to view it, and if you can get past Meghan's nasally voice, it didn't have much substance. Mostly her and her producer chatting about online privacy. Like the original Current TV was, Pivot is going to be a hard sell to 18-34 year olds, no matter how hard they integrate the social media aspect to it. Millennials don't sit down and watch linear cable networks.
Samantha 2905 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 It's an even harder sell when you don't know where it is in your cable lineup—if it's there at all.
Mrtraveler01 739 Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Wait, so someone saw how terrible Current TV performed and said "why don't we copy that."?
TVIntheDesert 185 Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Wait, so someone saw how terrible Current TV performed and said "why don't we copy that."? Yep. Jeff Skoll at Participant Media (who, coincidentally, funded Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"). Of course, they won't admit the comparisons to the early Current, but it's definitely there (it's Current with a few off-network and imported shows added to the mix).

I say this as someone left of the center but that guy must have quite a bit of money to waste. "Fox News-style" news from the left simply isn't profitable. Air America learned that the hard way too.
Big Country News 435 Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 "Fox News-style" news from the left simply isn't profitable. Just ask MSNBC.
