Mike Bush reminiscing about how he built the 'Sport Plus' set with old carpet scraps because no budget 😅

The KSDK time/temp bug is SLOPPY. In the video above and on today's noon the first number of the time crosses the divider line. Screenshot2026-01-05at5_47_10PM.png.ea3c17fc8d82696f47fd45ba1c4f3913.png

More sloppy. The anchor desk isn't centered in the two-shot, and neither are the anchors

I know this board loves to hate everything, but I'm going to point out things I actually like. Y'all need to put these things into perspective of Tegna's history. They have never been stellar at in-house set design

- Honestly, this a studio I wish WHAS would get. They are way overdue and I think were one of the first stations to get the Tegna V1 cookie cutter.

- I was surprised to see graphical and musical updates (unless they've already had them and I didn't know). Not what I would expect given an impending sale to Nexstar. Also, if the music means the a Capella crap is finally done then I am all aboard.

- The set, though admittedly a bit sterile, works. It might be a little dark, but overall the lighting isn't overpowering (which studio talent probably appreciates)

Yes, it isn't perfect. The apparent acoustic sound panels feel slapped in there as an afterthought to break up the big white walls and may have been better if they filled the entire space (it would also have added unique texture).

Generic looking.  Plus it seems they now focus on gimmicky names for their newscast, weather, etc.  Not the KSDK I remember from 12 years ago...

Welcome to budget cuts where "service-able" is how things get accomplished.

Gray usually launches 24/7 weather streams all the time (WOIO/WUAB and WLUC being two recent examples). However, I found another group that may do so as well... TEGNA and Weather Impact 24/7 streams.

I found WVEC and WXIA to be the first two clients.

WVEC: https://www.13newsnow.com/video/news/weather-impact-247/291-d223d83c-5a51-41d7-a209-d72fd28d6eb6 (according to this one, launched yesterday)

WXIA: https://www.11alive.com/video/weather/11alive-live-weather/85-e76bbb55-2d2b-4b71-90b9-4dce96553ce5 (according to this one, launched in early March)

EDIT: This is WXIA's first 24/7 weather stream in like around 5-6 years or so when they had that Weather Information Zone channel.

EDIT (x2): Pictures here to prove it (apologies for the first one of the NBC peacock: its from one of my monitors.)

An update from last year...

Yeah, it looks like TEGNA is going full throttle on launching these 24/7 weather streams. I've noticed WBIR, KTHV, WFAA, KHOU, KENS, WKYC, WFMY, WLTX, KGW, KUSA, WWL, and WGRZ launching their own Weather Impact 24/7 streams lately.

WVEC's 24/7 weather stream is also now available on television on WVEC-DT 13.7.

A further update on this...

KING, WTIC, and WNEP have launched 24/7 streams of their own, and now KSDK has launched theirs on television as well, coming back for the first time since NewsChannel 5 Weather Plus went away in 2013. This time, instead of 5.2, 5 On Your Side Weather Impact 24/7 is located on 5.6.

My goodness, is that a mouthful of branding that probably means nothing to viewers. Whatever happened to keeping it simple!

I'm going to provide an update on that... TEGNA is almost the first company to provide live 24/7 weather streams across all its stations. I've checked and done the research, and every station EXCEPT for KWES-TV Odessa/Midland (due to technical difficulties) has launched its weather streams.

Unfortunately, since these stations took down their other streams except for the main 24/7 stream online, the only way I was able to verify was to download every single TEGNA station's streaming TV app on my Roku (later deleted afterward except for WTSP's and WTLV/WJXX's since I'm in Florida), which is available under either Live Radar 24/7 or Weather Impact 24/7.
