Samantha 2902 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Here's a new one. WMBD in the late 1990s looked like a Media General station:
ChesapeakeTV 312 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Wow, those are really good! the open is about the only similarity, though...
Viper550 292 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. The uploader, who used to work for a Citadel station, said that basically their internal motto is "get the cheapest people and equipment we can and try to make it look like New York City."
AarHan3 18 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 WWL-TV and KATC-TV also dabbled in usurping graphics for their newscast intros in the 1980s, being sister stations at the time (KATC was sold to Loyola, WWL's owner, in 1971). They both even used the same music jingle package: TM Productions' "The Best Things In Life" (1979). KATC-TV Action 3 News 5PM open (1983): WWL-TV Eyewitness News 4 Weekend 6PM open (1980):
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I was in the Springfield, MO market and noticed that the 10 minute newscast that Fox affilate KRBK has graphics that seem similar to the Fox Tribune ones. Anyone else think they look similar? http://www.foxkrbk.com/

Anyone else think they look similar? http://www.foxkrbk.com/ If you sort of squint... it still wouldn't look anything like the Fox Tribune graphics.
Viper550 292 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Do you like early-2000's-grade renditions of the Fox O&O look? WFQX has you covered 2
WFTV Channel 9 80 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 This seems like a knockoff of WISH-TV's graphics from the Early 90's.
Samantha 2902 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 They weren't the only ones. Off the top of my head, WTVC and WLBT did it too. WISH's 90s look particularly after ditching First News is one of my personal favorites. "The Best Gets Better" indeed!
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 WACH in Columbia, SC seems to be incorporating an odd mix of Sinclair's new package as well as their old one. Couldn't Sinclair just give them the new package since they own WACH now?
Mrtraveler01 738 Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I know I mentioned this on another thread but it looks like WBBH's new graphics are a knockoff of Look F. http://www.nbc-2.com/clip/10576705/community-counts-booze-for-a-good-cause-this-weekend This is very odd because competitor station WINK has a much authentic version of Look F (even though it's a CBS affiliate). http://www.winknews.com/Local-Florida/2014-09-13/Possible-name-change-for-Ft-Myers-bridge-causes-controversy 1

But weird... Wink has it

It should also be noted that they ripped off the Today Show's current and recent graphics on their morning newscasts as well.

It should also be noted that they ripped off the Today Show's current and recent graphics on their morning newscasts as well. They're not necessarily as bad as y'all say, they're pretty good for (very) small market TV. is much worse.
sanewsguy 514 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Another Look G ripoff, courtesy of KNBN in Rapid City, SD: http://www.newscenter1.tv/news/watch-newscasts The Look G attempt isn't bad considering the market size and effort they put into it. It's not a straight up ripoff either like KHSL/KNVN's. Theirs is pretty bad. Interestingly it appears that the opens and talent bump are played out from master control since they're in a HD and the odd transitions from the studio feed to the talent bump etc. For the morning show, oh it irks me that they're using Montserrat (a free Google font) and not Gotham. Could you guys really not afford Gotham? If they'd used Gotham then their ripoff would actually be pretty good. Well, at least they have a BIM site now. Whatever they used before was crap.
Leavellebrett 85 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I can't tell if are a bad knockoff or just a bad usage of the old WBBH graphics.
TennTV1983 807 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I can't tell if are a bad knockoff or just a bad usage of the old WBBH graphics. It's the latter. The font WVIR used completely ruined the VDO package altogether.
Samantha 2902 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 WDBB ripped off the old Hayes "splitting city skyline" element (see: WAGA, KMOL) . That could also be actual Hayes work, but I don't think so by 1984/85.
TServo2049 82 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Those WDBB graphics debuted in 1984 when the station signed on, I wouldn't be surprised if they were legit and not a knockoff. But probably no way to find out now...
CLT-DCA-ORF-PTI 87 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Kind of a Knockoff - But I think it is a pretty nice ...interpretation of the final BELO opens:
Big Country News 435 Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Kind of a Knockoff - But I think it is a pretty nice ...interpretation of the final BELO opens: Looks nothing like a Belo open, and more like a gerneric HotHaus mock. KXJB uses it, too: [yt]f8u7bNX_wTQ[/yt]
sanewsguy 514 Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Hoak seemed to have a thing for knocking off Hothaus. WMBB, Valley News Live, KNOE (the closest knockoff of the final Belo look)... That WMBB look was also picked up by KHAS and KNOP too when they went HD last year. (although KHAS/KSNB now uses a stock Gray look)
