A3N 1002
After 7 1/2 years, KFMB is retiring its current set which made it's debut (and the debut of HD news) back in January 2007. The set has aged fairly well, it was refreshed with new duratrans, some new monitors and updated branding last year. No word on when the new set will make its debut or what it will look like. I'll post updates as new info comes out. Here are some pics of the temporary setup: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/ Share on other sites
SFTV 526
Just in time for fall sweeps... FX? BDI? Devlin? This leaves KUSI (late 90's) and XETV (1999) with the oldest sets in the SD Market. MidwestTV 1232
that temp set up doesn't look too bad actually Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-109685 Share on other sites
A3N 1002
The desk looks like the one they used for election coverage last month. Not sure why they did not use the regular desk as part of temp set, unless it had to do because of space. I'm just hoping that the new set is modern looking and more spacious than the one it is replacing. Also, I hope a news room remodel is in the works. Their newsroom is beyond its last leg. It would be a shame to have to anchors in a nice new set to then toss to a reporter in the old, worn news room. They did remodel the newsroom, somewhat... they added a new 70 inch flat screen tv to use for standups :rofl!: But yeah, I agree. That newsroom looks dated, heck it looks exactly the same as it did in 1998, with old CRT monitors included! I'm sure that BDI will do this new set, seeing as they did the previous set and the election desk looks like a BDI job. Something like KCNC's set (which BDI did) would look nice at KFMB. Bsean 149
I can see them with a set similar to KCNC. LOL, I am also still rooting for the KSL set. But the KCNC is more likely since KFMB has been moving more toward their CBS roots. A3N 1002
According to main anchor Barbara-Lee Edwards, the new set should be ready in about 4 weeks. Also, below is a link to a pic showing another view of the temp setup, showing the aforementioned election desk... https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BtGy8_lCcAAM8uZ.jpg:large Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-109764 Share on other sites
Bsean 149
That desk actually looks like the KNBC desk. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-109766 Share on other sites

A3N 1002
Nichelle posted a pic of her and Alicia (on Instagram) rehearsing on the new set. No sneak peeks were given, but can't wait to see what the new set looks like. giannphotogsd 0
The latest: Barbara Lee Edwards on Twitter posted photos during rehearsals. However not a single hint at the new studio yet. They seem to keep it as a surprise. Can't wait to see it though. SFTV 526
Looks like they run their own teleprompter now with that foot pedal. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-111255 Share on other sites
A3N 1002
Well, from one of the pics, it looks like they kept the wooden floor and the interview area, and i'm pretty sure the rear projection screen as well. Let's see what happens at 5. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-111264 Share on other sites
giannphotogsd 0
This is the first glimpse I saw of the new studio in a preview! Looks like a 10News KGTV background setting. Bsean 149
It's not bad, but the fact that the monitors behind the desk are not apart of the wall bothers me. n925tv 143
Matt Baylow just did the Weather Forecast, in front of a small TV monitor...No Green Screen? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-111283 Share on other sites
A3N 1002
The new set looks very nice. It has nice, modern feel to it. There are 2 stand up areas, one on each side of the studio. On the left is the main stand up area with 3 monitors positioned side by side, on the right, there is one monitor to be used during weather. Weather was done from the green screen during the first hit, so the monitor is an additional tool/space to use. A majority of the set was recycled- somewhat. The walls of the set were re-configured and some re-painted to match the new set. The monitors behind the anchors looks to be those thin bezel screens (arranged in a 3x2 format), the monitors are larger in size than KGTV's. Overall, a nice set, much needed. TennTV1983 804
BDI did a nice job with the updated set over at KFMB. Overall, it looks similar to the work they did on KCNC's set recently. MidwestTV 1232
So it was more like a large refresh rather than a new set. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13737-kfmb-getting-a-new-set/#findComment-111296 Share on other sites
A3N 1002
So it was more like a large refresh rather than a new set. I guess you can say that. They did a refresh on the old set just last year, so they used quite a bit of those pieces. Also, the wooden flooring was left over as well. 1place4news 5
Link to a timelapse of construction: http://www.cbs8.com/story/26217776/cbs-news-8-studio-unveiled-what-it-took-to-get-our-new-look It's nice. Not totally blown away by it, but a much needed improvement. Feels like a mix between the KCNC and WFOR sets.
