chrelevator 29 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 After 7 years with their Hothaus graphics and The Tower, WPXI has debuted a brand new look, and it is simply stunning! I don't have video, but I do have some pictures that were posted on Twitter: Also, I have no idea what the new music is or who it was composed by. You can have a listen for yourself, though. Check out their live stream here. (Adobe Flash required to view)
MidwestTV 1269 Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 FINALLY! They look nice, but then again, probably anything would have after seven years of the same package.
chrelevator 29 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Here is their new open. I recorded this off PCNC which is in SD (which explains the poor quality and the odd placement of the PCNC bug). http://youtu.be/DMvdtoiJUfU
chrelevator 29 Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 FINALLY! They look nice, but then again, probably anything would have after seven years of the same package. Absolutely. Their Hothaus package was nice, but it was really time for a fresh new look and sound, considering that KDKA and WTAE have each had several graphics changes and updates since WPXI launched the Hothaus look. Based on the pictures and the open I just posted, do you know who might have made this package?

Based on the pictures and the open I just posted, do you know who might have made this package? They probably stuck with Hothaus in terms of making their new graphics. While it may not look like it, some of the transitional elements are similar. I'm also guessing they've decided to switch to a 16x9 letterbox format on the SD feed?
TheOneManHerd 555 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I'm also thinking Hothaus did the graphics, but whoever did the music really shoudn't have.

They started doing that recently on WPXI in SD on cable and PCNC.
chrelevator 29 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 Here is an extended cut of the new music from tonight's lotto bumper: http://youtu.be/B2Z4g2CPllg
Mrtraveler01 739 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 You'll have to let us know what cut they use for the 10pm news on WPGH
channel2 982 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Good god, that music sounds so cheap and cheesy.
cbs2newengland 72 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Thanks for posting it, as I can get a feel what WFXT might look like after the trade is finalized.
chrelevator 29 Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 You'll have to let us know what cut they use for the 10pm news on WPGH Same music. Only differences are callsigns and evening pictures of the Pittsburgh skyline in the graphics.
Leavellebrett 85 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I love it. WJAC has the old Hothaus package right now with Tower V.2 and I love the combo. They look a million times better than WTAJ and I think WPXI looked a million times better than the rest of Pittsburgh before. Now, I really think that. Love the new graphics, love the new music. The music sounds kind of like 615 to me. KTVU and WSB use 615 now and WPXI used them before, so they may be repeat customers. A lot of the instrumentation just sounds like 615 to me... definitely not Gari. It may be ITG. I wouldn't be surprised. It might be Arnold, too. He's been changing his style a bit as of recent. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to share.
newscopter7 234 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I really wish WPXI had picked up the 615's Coverage like their sister station in Atlanta.
sanewsguy 517 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 This has got to be a Hothaus job. Every time I look at these, I can't help but be reminded of WPMI's 2011 gfx, which was a Hothaus job. Also, the fonts are a dead giveaway.

NEOMatrix 1308 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I do like everything but the music. It's not godforsaken trash like This is Home but it just doesn't seem fitting for WPXI IMO. The music feels a lil too up tempo for Channel 11 News but when the time comes, it should feel perfect on WHBQ and WFXT.
Weeters 1981 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I'm pretty certain that's Hothaus. Also, why does everyone think this is a new corporate look?
TennTV1983 811 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I'm pretty certain that's Hothaus. Also, why does everyone think this is a new corporate look? No idea since Cox really isn't into standardization like other station groups.
bammy9 26 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 The theme kind of reminds me of the Time Warner News theme.

No idea since Cox really isn't into standardization like other station groups. well in my case, some elements could be used for their other stations.
chrelevator 29 Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 For some reason, parts of WPXI's old Hothaus package still keep showing up in their newscasts. This has been a problem since the new look was launched. The old lower thirds sometimes come up, and tonight on 11 at 11 they closed with the old closing slide. Why wouldn't the old graphics be removed from their systems?
