Nick from DETROIT 2 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Over the past week WDIV in Detroit has been using a green screen with the current set image as the background. They are using deadshots on the anchors as well giving away the fact they aren't on their usual set.

Nick from DETROIT 2 Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 I also am hearing a rumor about them tweaking their logo as well any news on this being true?
ns8401 957 Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I also am hearing a rumor about them tweaking their logo as well any news on this being true? I have no idea, best guess is adding a peacock to it similar to what WPLG did adding an ABC logo.
lugnuts6 91 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I just hope they get the same type of cool set that WPLG has ...
ns8401 957 Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 WDIV debuted their new set today with a new non-angled version of the 4 to go with it. The Click On Detroit logo is also brand new. It looks like something from MSNBC, the first maybe 5 seconds of the video show a tight shot of it. I'll upload from my tuner after the 11pm hopefully with more looks but in the meantime here's a small taste: http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/2-people-shot-outside-eastland-center/27758408
CircleSeven 1960 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I love the previous "4" logo. The new one look plain and lacks character.
MidwestTV 1245 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 nice looking set, bad looking new logos.
ns8401 957 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Here's a shot at the end of the 11pm news that showed most of the new set, kind of empty in there..
Weeters 1969 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The anchor area is kind of... plain. The grey expanses above and below the monitors (?) on either side of the anchors looks rather boring. Also, it's a partial refresh. The railing on the upper part of the set on the right side of the screen is a dead giveaway. It matches what's seen here. How many studio cameras do they have? Four are visible on that wide shot, PLUS the one that's being used! Five studio cameras?! In Detroit?! Is that really necessary?

We do lots of pan shots and fancy stuff like that, this market isn't as small as the 11 suggests either, it's about the same size as when it was #5 and the viewers still expect them to try to act like it.
Nick from DETROIT 2 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 The canadian viewers aren't counted, however, they do make up a descent chunk of the viewer base!
Journalist 894 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Oh god, that is the worst looking logo I've ever seen today. This, ladies and gentlemen is low quality PowerPoint logos at it's finest. Can you spot the difference?

Journalist 894 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 The real one is on the right, but nice job anyways. Cool, the real one is actually on the left. That sums up that WDIV's new logo can be "professionally designed" on a PowerPoint level. That's funny.
MidwestTV 1245 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Well then that's just a crying shame. I hope too much money wasn't spent to create it...as in none...because it would appear that's how much was spent.

That's funny. I like yours better anyways... It was hard because your pics were bigger on my phone than the logo actually is on the screen so I picked the smaller thinner 4... And still lost. When you actually look at it on TV it's absolutely tiny.
Breaking News 839 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Through the last 25 years WDIV had some pretty impressive logos, but the current one just scream CHEAP! They might as well stuck with one of these current logos vs the current "new" logo that a mess.
Viper550 292 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I'm not sure what's worse; that, or that old WNWO logo, in which Sinclair actually did something decent for once and threw it in the trash.
MidwestTV 1245 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Oh...so the slanted 4 has actually been around for 25+ years? No wonder people are sp upset then.
ns8401 957 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Oh...so the slanted 4 has actually been around for 25+ years? No wonder people are sp upset then. 1979 in one form or another so more like 35. It was one of the first changes P-N did when they got WDIV.
Big Country News 435 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 So, let me get this straight... WJXT dropped their legacy logo for something akin to WDIV, and WDIV dropped their somewhat legacy logo for something that looks like it belongs at a Gannett station. Hm. Makes you think.

All is right with world now, WDIV should be a Gannett station all things being equal.
Viper550 292 Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 So apparently, the set was designed in-house, in collaboration with a Livonia-based company that produces trade show displays. It doesn't look too bad for an in-house design, but there's still some nitpicks here and there.
