justin2kx 240 Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The Thursday after the super bowl, NBC will schedule an all-drama thursday for the first time since 1980. Basically to compete with ABC's Shonda Rhimes-programmed block. In part, 'The Blacklist' debuts there thursday at 9p after the winter premiere airs post super bowl. Although 'Must See TV' has been dead since 2004, it would be the first time since '80 that no comedy appears on a regular schedule. Take note in another but similar story when CBS hit show 'Scorpion' debuted this fall at 9pm, disrupting what was 2-hr comedy block on Mondays. Does it signals more of a sorry state of affairs of what passes off as 'Comedy' recently or that Drama does it better by comparison? Take note that thus far in the fall season, only comedies, no dramas, have been cancelled. (Manhattan Love Story and Selfie from ABC, Bad Judge and A to Z on NBC, the millers (from last season) on CBS) Only exception was the reality disaster 'Utopia' from FOX. http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2014/12/nbc-thursday-drama (and btw Complex, shut up, I like the jingle, shoot me ) http://deadline.com/2014/12/nbc-midseason-premiere-dates-allegiance-slap-odyssey-one-big-happy-1201322358/
SterlingNorth 33 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Some of this seems to be just that TV goes in cycles, and now drama are ascendent, but part of it is single-camera comedies are not broadly popular, while multi-cam comedies only become successful on CBS, largely when produced by Chuck Lorre.
TresGriffin 142 Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Well, goodness, Sean Hayes is like the new Ted McGinley...

AdamTheJ 90 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Can I say something? I Hate that CBS went all-drama starting this past November. You realize that means no more sitcoms on Mondays anymore on network TV. How DARE they! You know? The last thing I need now is to realize CBS dropping sitcoms entirely. I hope this doesn't happen!

It won't because of 2 Broke Girls, Mom, and The Big Bang Theory. Unfortunately, we will see the bittersweet end of Mike & Molly in May. Let's put it this way, as long as Chuck Lorre is still alive, CBS will never drop sitcoms.
