KMOV adds 4pm newscast

On September 14th, KMOV 4 in St. Louis is adding a 4pm newscast followed by Inside Edition at 4:30pm. They are moving the Young and the Restless out of its longtime timeslot in the market at 4-5pm where it has aired for over 20 plus years. Y&R moves to its traditional CBS network time period at 11am, with Price Is Right moving to 10am. Price is Right has aired at 11am on KMOV for a long time as well. In addition, the morning newscast is expanding to 4am with the CBS Morning News moving to 3:30am.

Despite the news expansion, I'm guessing viewers of Y&R and Price is Right will not be happy.

Watching The Price is Right an hour earlier shouldn't be a huge deal to the regular viewers - perhaps college students who have a 10 am class might be a bit perturbed. Moving Y&R from 4 pm to 11 am is a big change, to be sure, but as long as they know how their DVRs work, viewers should be just fine. There's always the 6 pm replay on Pop, too.

Also with these moves, KMOV is moving Inside Edition from its post-Late Show slot to 4:30 pm, sandwiched between the 4 and 5 pm newscasts. James Corden immediately follows Stephen Colbert as a result. This might be the first time KMOV has run all the CBS programming in pattern since they were owned by the network.

If you go to the KMOV facebook page, people are already posting how upset they are at Y&R moving to 11am. It has been on KMOV at 4pm for the longest time and the demographic that watches Y&R is also the same demographic that doesn't react to change well.

You are correct with this latest programing shift. This is the first time going back to when KMOV was owned by CBS they've aired all CBS Programing in pattern.

I remember KMOV always had it's own unique daytime schedule with CBS programming. For years, they carried CBS This Morning live at 6am CT and aired the 9:00am hour of CBS Daytime programs (Family Feud, Designing Women) on a one day delay at 8:00am so they could air Live with Regis & Kathie Lee at 9am. Young and the Restless was effective to air at 3pm after Guiding Light against Oprah on KSDK, then later at 4pm where it served as a lead in to the 5pm newscast. I don't know what the reason is for the change now, if the ratings are down at 4pm for the show or they just wanted to add a 4pm newscast. Also, their new ownership may have been a factor in the changes to go back to the standard network schedule or a new contract with CBS.
