TheRolyPoly 2466
All of the Cox radio stations recently upgraded their websites as well. WHIO Radio, KRMG (AM 740 and 102.3 FM) and WDBO 96.5 FM are just a few that haven't as of yet. Rusty Muck 4379
Surprise FOX itself didn't do any repairs to WHBQ when they owned them. Fox took an "if it ain't broke" approach with WHBQ, like most of the ex-New World stations - most of which were ex-CBS affiliates with strong news departments. They never have struck me as a group that pours a lot of money and resources to upgrade specific stations, WJZY (obviously) being the exception. Had it not been for the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, Fox would have unloaded WHBQ much, much sooner. Also The Dayton Daily News still has the old Cox newspaper web layout as well. I find it odd that 2 of Cox's legacy properties haven't been updated yet. Check it out at WHIO.com WHIO's website looks a lot different from the ones at the other Cox stations. Is it a new version that the others will receive later, or was it just made exclusively for WHIO? That is the question. That is the question. one thing to point out about the uniqueness of WHIO's website is that they share it with their radio sister station, unlike other Cox stations who keep their websites separate for TV and radio. It is possible this was specially made for WHIO. Guest
Hate to bump a really old thread, but I have interesting NEW INFORMATION!!! Please note the following information is from an inside source and all of this is in the very early stages. A reliable source within Cox Media Group tells me that the TV sites might be ditching Lakana at some point soon in an effort to "synergize all local properties into one CMS system where they can easily share content." Up until now, the Cox Media Group has been all over the place in terms of CMS systems. The Cox newspapers and Radio sites use Méthode with an entirely different look on both. The TV stations for the most part have been using Internet Broadcasting/Lakana for the better part of 15 years. Cox corporate is looking for a way to make a similar move that they did in Dayton, Ohio and combine the TV and radio stations in the market into one synergized website. WHIO uses Méthode, unlike the other TV stations. If you look closely, you can tell the difference despite having a similar layout to the Lakana sites. Not sure how these synergized sites would work in a market like Atlanta when you have WSB-TV and a paywalled AJC, but nevertheless this is still rumor at this point. It is rumored that most of the TV sites will be migrated over to Méthode OR all the newspapers, radio stations, and television stations will get a brand new CMS. One CMS system being looked at other than Méthode is the same CMS that the Washington Post is built on, called Arc. https://www.arcpublishing.com/ Apparently, corporate is considering different options at this point, however, because they've found pros and cons with both Lakana and Méthode. Now mind you all of this is in the very early stages, and is purely insider rumors at this point. However, the Cox TV stations websites on Lakana may be on borrowed time. To be honest, in my opinion, they couldn't switch to something else fast enough. I've never liked the new Cox sites when they debuted. I also didn't really like the long-in-the-tooth look it replaced. For examples of what the Cox newspapers use: http://www.ajc.com https://www.daytondailynews.com/ For examples of the Cox radio stations site design: https://www.wape.com/ https://www.yourgeorgiacountry.com/ https://www.971theriver.com/ And compare: http://www.whiotv.com http://www.wsbtv.com Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14828-new-cox-media-websites-coming/page/2/#findComment-202207 Share on other sites
