justin2kx 237
From across the pond, personal yet big news at ITV's This Morning. Longtime presenter Phillip Schofield revealed that he's gay. His co-presenter + friend Holly Willoughby kicked off the announcement with a public statement. Prior to the event, Phillip has been married to his wife Steph for 27 years (they met at the BBC, she was a Production Assistant, he was CBBC presenter) + has two adult daughters. The full video below (as of this typing) has garnered more than 4.5 million views within 24 hours. Phillip stated that although it hasn't been easy, he since has gained full support of his family. This comes heels off a supposed 'row' (british for feud) between Phillip + fellow colleague Ruth Langsford, who accused him of a 'toxic' backstage atmosphere that alleged feud has created. Was there any whisper behind the scenes regarding his sexuality? Regardless, much strength + good vibes for phillip + his family. justin2kx 237
Sad news this time from across the pond again. Television Presenter Caroline Flack, 40, was found dead of an apparent suicide yesterday. She was the host of Britain's most popular show of the moment, ITV 2's Love Island. She was awaiting trial in a domestic assault case in March. She pled not guilty. However that case turned into a circus on part of the media (the sun, daily mail) + allegedly (by Flack's lawyer) Crown Prosecution Service (equivalent much to Dept. of Justice in U.S) for pressing forward trial despite her boyfriend wishing not to press charges. She later stepped down from hosting LI before this new season commenced a while ago. Door was open for her return once the trial settles. Her vulnerability on the spotlight as been well documented. It was a whirlpool that was sudden + threw everyone off. ITV has since pulled two consecutive nights (last night + tonight) of Love Island off schedule. No word on future episodes or if the series will continue under Flack's shadow? Flack was the face of the show, and her death is the third suicide from the show, joining two former contestants whose fate was eerily the same. If you or someone you know is facing depression, someone is out there to listen to you. Have strength to seek help if you can. Unfortunately in cases like this, it's a vicious cycle where one's vulnerability is exposed + magnified in the spotlight + on social media that it sped up on its breaking point which sadly brought this result. Also, quite hypocritical of those judging on her love life or life of the party (read:"cougar") are now sending condolences + wishing others to be kind. Got a bit of blood on their hands, i'm afraid. I'm of the belief right now there's no end in sight for this. At this time strength to Caroline's friends + family. https://www.itv.com/news/2020-02-15/caroline-flack-itv-love-island-presenter-found-dead/ Note: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number: 1-800-273-8255 Edited February 17, 2020 by justin2kx 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15210-international-out-and-about/page/7/#findComment-240802 Share on other sites

TheRolyPoly 2409
I can't read French but I can get the gist of what this story is talking about. France 4 and France O are shutting down on August 9th. France 4 focused on Entertainment and Children while France O focused on programs from France's overseas departments around the world, but shown in France. Its overseas counterpart, Outre-Mer 1ere, will continue to broadcast as it does so outside of France. That'll just leave France 2, France 3, France 5 and Franceinfo left from the France Televisions group. https://www.ozap.com/actu/france-4-et-france-o-fermeront-le-9-aout-prochain/587713 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15210-international-out-and-about/page/7/#findComment-244001 Share on other sites
C Block 1566
That story is from January, and the cuts were announced in 2018. The government announced big cuts then to not just France Télévisions but also Radio France and INA, which is sort of a historical media archive service. Since the pandemic, France 2 and franceinfo: have been simulcasting a joint Télématin/6h30-9h30 newscast, though it's really just franceinfo's regular morning news. Franceinfo: has also been airing the main France 2 newscasts at 13h and 20h one hour afterward, and they've also been doing a taped pandemic special at 22h. ED2 144
Word today that CTV Edmonton (CFRN-TV) has let go of both their morning show anchors, Rob Williams and Stacey Brotzel, after being on-air on Monday. Geoff Phillips, CTV Edmonton’s 5 PM anchor, has been filling in on CTV Morning Live for the last few days since their departure. Rob Williams had been part of CTV Edmonton for a couple of decades, and was the only remaining launch anchor when CTV Morning Live Edmonton began in 2011. Stacey Brotzel was hired by CTV Edmonton in 2012 after departing Citytv Edmonton. She was a reporter, news anchor, and later host of Breakfast Television at Citytv before jumping ship to CTV. The news was tweeted by Daryl McIntyre, another long time news anchor that was let go from CTV Edmonton in October 2019. CTV Morning Live is one of two remaining morning shows on Edmonton TV. Global News Morning from Global Edmonton is the #1 morning show in the market, and has been on the air since 1993. Citytv’s Breakfast Television Edmonton was cancelled back in 2015. ED2 144
In Canada, a general election in the province of British Columbia is wrapping up this evening. Global BC & Okanagan, CTV Vancouver, CBC British Columbia, Radio-Canada, and CHEK-TV Victoria are all doing rolling coverage this evening. CBC, CTV, and Global starting an hour before polls close at 7 PM, with CHEK starting their coverage at 8 PM. The graphics for CBC, CTV, and Global are the same as the ones used during the New Brunswick election night. Global BC coverage (simulcast on Global Okanagan, BC1, and Corus news-talk station 980 CKNW Vancouver) CBC British Columbia coverage (simulcast on CBC News Network nationally, and on CBC Radio One across BC) CTV Vancouver coverage (simulcast on CTV News Channel nationally) https://bc.ctvnews.ca/watch-ctv-news-vancouver-s-election-night-special-1.5159102 CHEK-TV coverage (the only results show originating from Victoria, the provincial capital) Radio-Canada coverage (simulcast on RDI nationally) https://ici.radio-canada.ca/elections-colombie-britannique-2020/resultats Other stations of note: - The Pattison-owned Citytv stations in Prince George (CKPG-TV) and Kamloops (CFJC-TV) are not doing rolling coverage according to online schedules, but will have late night newscasts focusing on the election after primetime. - According to online schedules, the CTV2 stations in the province (CIVI Victoria, CFTK Terrace, and CJDC Dawson Creek) are NOT simulcasting CTV Vancouver's coverage. They are airing regular programming. CIVI Victoria's schedule also shows a special late night newscast at 11 PM (CIVI usually does not broadcast a weekend 11 PM newscast) Also, CTV Vancouver was the first to declare both an NDP win, and an NDP majority government thanks to the help of the CTV Decision Desk out of Toronto. Declared NDP Win CTV - 8:42 PM CBC - 8:56 PM CHEK - 8:58 PM Global - 9:01 PM Declared NDP Majority Gov't CTV - 9:07 PM CBC - 9:11 PM CHEK - 9:12 PM Global - 9:28 PM Edited October 26, 2020 by ED2 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15210-international-out-and-about/page/7/#findComment-252552 Share on other sites
ED2 144
Another election night in Canada, this time in the province of Saskatchewan. All 3 major networks (CBC, CTV, Global) are presenting election results coverage this evening. Citytv Saskatchewan does not have a news operation, so they will just be showing regular programming. Saskatchewan Votes from CBC Saskatchewan (simulcast on CBC News Network nationally and on CBC Radio One across Saskatchewan) Decision Saskatchewan from Global Regina & Global Saskatoon Election 2020 from CTV Regina and CTV Saskatoon (simulcast on CTV News Channel nationally) https://regina.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=68596 Other stations of note: The Stingray-owned CTV (CITL-DT) and Global (CKSA-DT) stations in the city of Lloydminster, which straddles the border between Saskatchewan and Alberta, did not simulcast either network's coverage. Both stations operate on the Mountain Time Zone, and their schedules and news programming are more aligned with CTV and Global stations in Alberta. Declared Saskatchewan Party Win/Majority Government CTV - 8:37 PM CBC - 8:37 PM Global - 8:43 PM With the leader's speeches happening in the 9 PM hour, CTV ended their coverage at 10:30 PM so that they can prepare for their 11:30 PM local news. Global and CBC appear to be set to wrap their coverage at 11 PM (Global usually has an hour of local news at 10 PM with Colbert at 11 PM, while CBC Saskatchewan usually has The National at 10 and 11 PM). ED2 144
11 hours ago, johnnya2k6 said: Here in the States, you should say that the British Columbia and Saskatchewan elections were just warmups for next Tuesday. You're probably right, because I looked at the TV schedules for Election Day, and CBC, CTV, and Global are actually broadcasting US election coverage on their broadcast networks. CBC: The CBC TV network will be obliterating their primetime schedule on all stations on Tuesday Nov 3. starting at 8 PM ET/5PM PT. Their coverage will go through the night all the way to 6 AM local time on each CBC station, to make way for the local morning simulcast with CBC Radio One, and children's programming at 7 AM. CTV: The main CTV network will also be pre-empting a majority of its primetime schedule. Their news special is scheduled to start at 8 PM ET/5PM PT, except on CTV Edmonton and Calgary where the news special will start at 7 PM MT after the local 6 PM news. Their broadcast is also scheduled to end at 11 PM ET/8PM PT, where the eastern CTV stations are scheduled to air the CTV National News and CTV Local News afterwards. The western CTV stations (BC/AB/SK/MB) are scheduled to air random Big Bang Theory/Goldbergs/Jann repeats until CTV News starts at 11 PM local time. I would guess that if the situation warrants, all those programs will be pre-empted by the news special. Global: The Global TV network will not be airing a news special during primetime; they are scheduled to air "Solo: A Star Wars Story" at 8PM local/7PM CT, followed by local news at 11 PM/10PM CT. However, Global News is airing a news special immediately after the late local news, and is currently scheduled to go until 2:35 AM ET/12:35 AM MT across most the network (it may go past that if the situation warrants). Global News at 11 is being extended to 1 hour on Global's eastern stations just for this evening, as Late Night with Stephen Colbert will not run at its usual 11:35 PM timeslot. So the news special will air at 12 AM AT on Global Halifax/NB, and 12 AM ET on Global Toronto/Ontario/Montreal. All other stations in AB, SK, and MB will air the special at 12 AM MT (Alberta), 11 PM CT (Sask/MB). Global BC /Okanagan is not scheduled to air the special according to the TV guides, but if the election is still developing, Global BC might join the show in progress.
