BFM TV launched a new look today. It also brought in former TF1 and France 2 news presenter Julien Arnaud to launch a new mid-morning program, Arnaud Direct, from 10am-12pm.

Call me a sucker for modern-ism, but I like this, the "From Monday to Friday" ident gives off the vibes of clothing chains like American Eagle's marketing, and the box look of the ident is nice!

I just found out today that Anne Sophie-Lapix has left France 2's 20h after 8 years and France Televisions in general due to political pressure from both the left and the right.

She is joining M6 for Sunday programs and major news coverage and RTL Radio for a two-hour daily program.

That is such a shame, I always enjoyed her style, always professional, but never afraid to dig deep into politician's, which ultimately ended up being her downfall. Wished we could have someone like her in the U.S, but if the climate in France couldn't handle her, I doubt here could also.

She started at TF1 as a weekend news presenter where she made a name for herself, and has been known in France ever since.

Yep, I remember seeing her at TF1! She had a lot of experience, but I am happy to know she has landed somewhere at least for now!

So Anne-Sophie is going to be an interviewer for Sunday programs on M6 plus coverage of major primetime events. Plus, she'll do a 6-8 p.m. program on RTL Radio that'll be divided into news from 6-7:15 followed by analysis and debate from 7:15-8 p.m.

I've become such a fan of her's over recent years and more so after her exit (and the reasons for it) came out.

🐂 Spain

Here you are... the new season of Telediario on RTVE. By season, I mean the changing of the presenters. It sometimes happens in Spain, but not always. But this one for RTVE is highly anticipated. First off, Marc Sala moves off from La Hora to deliver the weekend editions of TD. Veteran television and radio journalist Lourdes Maldonado (Antena 3, TeleMadrid, RNE) is coming back to television to join Marc on the weekend side.

But most importantly, and why its so highly anticipated, the return of legendary journalist and one of the most trusted and respected voices in the country, Pepa Bueno, returns to RTVE to anchor the 21:00 edition after a 13-year hiatus. On debut night, she'll be interviewing the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, which will be aired as a half-hour special at 21:30, immediately following TD2, on all major RTVE networks that carry its news content (Flagship La 1, Secondary La 2, news channel 24h, national radio broadcaster RNE, and the streaming service RTVE Play).

All of this begins on Monday, September 1st, so it is quickly approaching.

Jacques Legros is leaving TF1 after 27 years as one of the presenters (mainly a fill-in) of their midday news program, Le 13h (13 Hours; 1:00pm). His final edition is May 9th.

Isabelle Ithurburu will replace him as the new fill-in while Marie-Sophie Lacarrau remains the main presenter on the main weekday edition.

Better late than never. If you can understand French, then you can enjoy Jacques' last moments on TF1 after nearly 27 years doing 13H as a fill-in.

This is from his last edition on May 9th.

Which countries?

(This is your friendly reminder to please identify countries by name, not just flag. Not everyone reading this board has the flags of all countries memorized, especially when the flags are represented as 18px-wide icons.)

Yeah. That is exactly why I post the emoji, followed by the name of the country, because not everyone will know that.

That's Poland, Georgia (the country, not the U.S. state), the Czech Republic, and one of my favorites, Spain, in that order.

Speaking of the latter...

RTVE took part in a 20-second blackout of their programmes with Reporters without Borders earlier this evening to protest the recent killing of journalists inside the Gaza Strip during the Israel-Hamas war.

I wanna add Canada in here because in case it was forgotten... Corus has officially pulled the plug on six of its networks in Canada: ABC Spark, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Jr., La Chaine Disney, and Nickelodeon. YouTuber Molly Mcgee has done a fantastic job of capturing them all, but its mainly the same thing. A Corus ident pops up, stays up for two minutes, and then the message This channel is no longer available shows up.

In France, an update on the 20h saga! Léa Salamé has been named the new anchor of 20h, and with her arrival, updated set, and updated graphics!

In an interesting move, the headlines now come before the intro, obviously the norm here in the States, but it is usually the opposite in France. The new intro is an actual graphical intro, not involving the set, a departure for France 2, though it takes inspiration from the last intro's use of circles, and then exits gracefully to the shape of the desk.

I'm also a fan of the graphic behind Salamé during the headlines.

Maybe Canada should have its own Out and About thread.

I would ask @Weeters or anyone in admin. before doing so. I would myself but I'm not so sure.

Of course, a Canada-focused thread should probably be started by a Canadian... 😉

Back in June, CTV gave out their upfront presentation for the upcoming year. Nothing is notable, honestly... except for this section:

Quote

Starting September 15, each local broadcast evolves into CTV YOUR MORNING VANCOUVER, CTV YOUR MORNING CALGARY, CTV YOUR MORNING EDMONTON, CTV YOUR MORNING SASKATCHEWAN, CTV YOUR MORNING WINNIPEG, CTV YOUR MORNING OTTAWA, and CTV YOUR MORNING ATLANTIC. While the national show CTV YOUR MORNING continues to serve its audience on CTV East (Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) and CTV News Channel. All versions of the show continue weekdays from 6 a.m. – 9 a.m.. The CTV YOUR MORNING family of shows delivers new opportunities for advertisers with brand integrations that can be customized for both national and local markets. The rebranded morning shows provide a cohesive, single brand experience for viewers to wake up to across CTV, featuring the hosts and reporters they know and trust, and the local news and information that matters.

In other words, the name CTV Morning LIVE is ending after 14 years in favor of local editions of CTV Your Morning. The national edition will remain, meaning there could be some confusion with this.

Forgot to mention this, but it was a year ago when the ABC brought back the 1985 theme in a whole new way. Less than two months ago, the theme was remixed for fewer morse code beeps and a fuller sound.

BREAKING and its a really sad one.

Longtime Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson, a legendary fixture on Canadian television for three decades with CTV Toronto, Global, CTV Canada A.M., W5, and the CTV News Channel... has passed away after a battle with cancer.

She was only 61. RIP to one of the best. 🕯🕯🕯

🇪🇸 Spain

This could be the start of a trend. Spain (via RTVE) has become the first of the Big Five broadcasters (France-France Télévisions, Germany-ARD/ZDF, Italy-RAI, Spain-RTVE, and UK-BBC) to pull out of the upcoming 2026 Eurovision Song Contest IF and only IF 🇮🇱 Israel remains a part of the contest.

This is RTÉ's report which also states that 🇮🇪 Ireland (RTÉ) and the 🇳🇱 Netherlands (NPO) have pulled out as well. Other countries may soon follow.

Former news presenter and television host Roger Climpson has passed away. He first did news bulletins for the Nine Network from 1957-1965 before presenting the Seven Network's news bulletins twice from 1965 to 1980 and then again from 1989 to 1994.

He also hosted various TV programs, docs, and even some made-for-TV movies (according to Wikipedia).

He was 92, just one month shy of turning 93.

🇪🇸 In Spain (specifically, in Catalonia), public service broadcaster CCMA (operating under the brand name 3Cat) has relaunched its news service last Wednesday (September 17th) under the 3CatInfo brand: radio station Catalunya Informació became 3CatInfo ràdio, and TV channel 3/24 is now 3CatInfo TV. TV3's newscasts, Telenotícies, were also relaunched:

🇧🇷 Here in Brazil, big news at TV Globo, our most-watched network: William Bonner, co-anchor of Jornal Nacional, its flagship newscast, is leaving the broadcast, both as presenter and as editor-in-chief, after 29 years behind the desk, this November. He will remain at the network, though, co-hosting (joining Sandra Annenberg) and producing select episodes of the weekly documentary series, Globo Repórter, starting next year.
This is causing a game of musical chairs at Globo and its São Paulo-based newscasts: César Tralli, currently at midday newscast Jornal Hoje, will move to Rio de Janeiro (where the Globo headquarters are located) and replace Bonner at JN, joining Renata Vasconcellos, who will remain at the broadcast; replacing Tralli at JH is Roberto Kovalick, currently at early morning newscast Hora Um, which will be presented by Tiago Scheuer (currently doing traffic and weather updates at statewide morning newscast Bom Dia São Paulo, which will be done by Marcelo Pereira, currently at Hora Um and who will reprise his duo with anchor Sabina Simonato, they're both co-anchors of national Saturday morning newscast Bom Dia Sábado); Natuza Nery will take over the 6pm hour on the GloboNews channel (where she already hosts the weekly political debate program Central GloboNews).
