The paper describes it was a transitional time for NBC as the network was mostly already located in L.A. for the western stuff. The building was described as a white elephant even when it was brand new in 1942. The author really had some detailed stuff. In those days you had cool glowy things that buzzed and hummed. Because the trans usa radio cable went to SF first....not L.A.
