rkolsen 1684
I just saw that a crawl was running tonight notifying viewers that Hearst is currently negotiating a renewal of their carriage agreement with DirecTV. Their current agreement expires on January 1, 2017. WBAL's crawl is mentioning that you can receive the channel through other providers. I have no idea how likely it is that anything will actually come of this. rkolsen 1684
Their last retrans battle was in 2010 and they notified viewers two weeks before the deadline. They were ultimately able to reach a deal in time. If I had to guess it would be that they are more opportunistic this time around as they only just announced the negotiations publicly a few days before the deadline. Guest Former Member 207
This could lead to more local stations being added to DirecTV Now as well. kdex86 53
This could be some major trouble in the Boston market. Cox Media is also negotiating with DirecTV for carriage of their stations, and their contract expires on January 1. DirecTV subscribers in the Boston DMA could temporarily lose both ABC and Fox to start the new year. DirecTV subscribers in the Boston DMA could temporarily lose both ABC and Fox to start the new year. Well the Nielsen survey for LPM, Set Meter and Code Reader Markets (4 weeks) begins next week in the 56 metered(major) markets (Jan 5th Feb-1st)....and all 210 markets kicks on Feb 2nd thru Mar-1. https://www.tvb.org/Portals/0/media/file/Nielsen_Local_Survey_Dates_2016-17.pdf Lets see how long they want to play this out because I really think the public doesn't give a shit anymore about these re-trans deals. There is plenty of watchable media out there for the picking... and i'm not getting emotionally invested in either parties cause. Too many other options out there. Add Pittsburgh and Orlando into this mess as well - their DirecTV subscribers (in both DMAs) could lose both ABC and NBC if Hearst AND Cox Media do not reach new retransmission consent agreements by 3 AM, Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15497-hearst-and-directv-retrans-negotiations/#findComment-164748 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3951
DirecTV is getting as bad as Dish with this....And it's only happened since AT&T bought them! rkolsen 1684
Looks like Hearst is also going up against CableOne. https://www.cedmagazine.com/news/2016/12/retrans-talks-hearst-negotiations-directv-might-be-affecting-cable-ones-discussions Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/15497-hearst-and-directv-retrans-negotiations/#findComment-164767 Share on other sites
rkolsen 1684
Doesn't look like they're going to make it. The same crawl just ran saying if negotiations aren't reached by January 1 they'll pull their signal. kdex86 53
Based on posts seen on WCVB's Facebook page, Hearst pulled their stations off DirecTV at 12:02 AM, almost immediately after the ball dropped in Times Square, and right in the middle of the celebrations. Very thoughtful. And Cox pulled their stations at 3 AM, so Boston is without ABC and FOX, and both Pittsburgh and Orlando are without ABC and NBC to start 2017. Magnificent! rkolsen 1684
Commenters on WBAL said they lost the signal before midnight. Is it that DirecTV was a bit premature or is Baltimore a large enough market for fiber lines to the receive point? Frank Bresz 0
Pittsburgh update - WTAE Dropped at a few minutes last midnight. WPXI dropped overnight. No answers from anyone. Directvpromise.com is a complete joke. A - it was swamped and offline last night. I don't get a credit for my service. I've been a customer for 15 years. AT&T royally screwed the pooch here. CircleSeven 1955
New Blackout. B&C states that CableONE has blacked out the stations owned by Brian Brady in ID & MS. However, CableONE has granted an extension in retrans negotiations regarding six Hearst stations. Also, Suddenlink has blacked out Spokane's KXLY. Happy New Year.
