newsbot 271 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 The move comes amid pressure from a shrinking subscriber base and orders from parent Disney to find $250M in cuts in 2017 http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/06/news/companies/espn-layoffs-talent/
brianpr3 178 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 The only thing i say is they better not fire Michelle Beadle and Jaymee Sire
CircleSeven 1960 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 The shoe just dropped at ESPN. More than 100 people are being laid off. Half of them will be on-air personnel. Other on-air folks such as Hannah Storm & Karl Revech could have their current roles "significantly reduced". EDIT 6pm/ET: Here's a letter wrote by the Skipper to the ESPN employees.
atlnews2 596 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 a list of everyone involved http://deadspin.com/a-running-list-of-espn-layoffs-1794664091?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_facebook&utm_source=deadspin_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Ed Werder and Jay Crawford are the most shocking from this list, imo.
brianpr3 178 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 they fired Jaymee sire when they should have fired Jemiele Hill
CircleSeven 1960 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Marysol Castro was also among the departed. Also, Auto Racing & CFB announcer Dr. Jerry Punch was listed. Hope he'll get picked up elsewhere. Missed him calling the NASCAR races when ESPN/ABC had the rights. Certainly a Bloodbath in Bristol today....
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 If history tells us anything, get ready for more layoffs in two years time. First 2015, then 2017. Now more in 2019? Seems like it.

channel2 982 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Looks like they cut their NHL staff to the bone (if there was anything more to it already)
AaronQ 282 Posted April 28, 2017 Posted April 28, 2017 Marc Stein announced on Twitter today that he got layed off by ESPN.
nomadcowatbk 156 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I only watch ESPN for the games, and that's mostly from Sept-Mid March, I can get spots highlights anywhere
CircleSeven 1960 Posted May 6, 2017 Posted May 6, 2017 Just realizing this now. Play-by-play announcer Allen Bestwick got cut too. He will still call the Indy 500 later this month. And the NY Post posted this Thursday. SportsCenter anchor Sara Walsh, who came back from maternity leave after delivering twins earlier this year, found out that she was also on that list too.
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 As a NASCAR fan who watched both Dr. Jerry Punch and Allen Bestwick call the races for ESPN and ABC Sports (yes I said ABC Sports, it'll always be ABC Sports to me) from 2007-2014, ESPN had 2 really good announcers, hopefully Fox and NBC will pick both of them up for NASCAR coverage. BTW who's going to call IndyCar races/Indianapolis 500 on ABC this season?
brianpr3 178 Posted May 9, 2017 Posted May 9, 2017 The fact that Jemele still has a job is disgraceful, SAD!

oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 10, 2017 Posted May 10, 2017 As stated above, Bestwick will still call the Indy 500. Awesome what about the other 5 races ABC will have this season?
CircleSeven 1960 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Somewhat related. ESPN is making changes to its SportsCenter coverage, including some new talent assignments.
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Somewhat related. ESPN is making changes to its SportsCenter coverage, including some new talent assignments. From what I read ESPN seems to be placing "SportsCenter" on the backburner and 1 more detail to add ESPN will move SportsCenter AM from ESPN to ESPN2 starting in January
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 From what I've read it looks like ESPN is moving SportsCenter: AM to ESPN2 starting in January so I don't know if ESPN is placing SportsCenter on the backburner or what either way they're doing that
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 From what I've read it looks like ESPN is moving SportsCenter: AM to ESPN2 starting in January so I don't know if ESPN is placing SportsCenter on the backburner or what either way they're doing that Oh and that SportsCenter:AM is expanding to every day, including weekends.
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Oh and that SportsCenter:AM is expanding to every day, including weekends. And the weekend version of SportsCenter:AM will air on ESPN or ESPN2 (mainly during Football season) and the weekday version will air exclusively on ESPN2
oklahomanewsman 210 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Who will primarily host the 11pm SportsCenter? Levy and Mayne or Bucci and Anderson?
Spring Rubber 716 Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 The 11pm edition of SportsCenter will continue to rotate hosts out of that group. Levy, Buccigross, and Anderson currently do that, anyway. They're just adding Mayne to that group.
