How long have stations done crawls on the bottom of screen?

I've found the earliest example here...(note: it's form the soap opera Another World). Was CBS doing this too?

The Today show had a ticker from its first episode on January 14, 1952.  It was an actually piece of paper that was typed out and supered on the screen.

Wow, this is from the wedding of "Walter" and "Lenore" in 1968, one of the earliest available clips of AW online.

(I guess we all have multiple other interests    )
