Welp, I didn't see that coming. I guess Scripps didn't want to pay for a station that small.

This is the first time in recent memory that a station going away like KXGN wipes out an entire DMA.

I would hope it's the first time ever, at least on the TV side.

The Sturlaugsons didn't even want KXGN-TV. It's obvious that KDZN-FM propped up channel 5 and just about everything else. Just as much as KYUS-TV was only being run as a public service and relayed KULR at no charge to Cowles.

KQTV pops up in shame. —> For context, they tried to have a Semi-satellite in Topeka, Kansas in the mid-1970s and tried to build towers in different locations, multiple times and even tried to make a bigger tower to add Kansas City and Topeka in its coverage area... all of the attempts failed.

Well, to bump this thread one last time with the fate of the Glendive market....

Montana PBS consummated the sale of KXGN and KYUS on October 22nd.  So the Glendive market still exists, it just doesn't have any commercial stations inside of it anymore.

YouTubeTV has replaced KXGN with KTVQ as the CBS affiliate of record for Glendive customers.
