Okay I'm confused, does St. Louis have 2 Telemundo affiliates?

  • WXSL-LD  (SagamoreHill Broadcasting)
  • WODK-LD (Innovate Corporation)

I'm asking because the News Music search archive is showing new music for WXSL-LD which they say started in 2011 as W26DZ-LP, the website for Telemundo shows WXSL...    But if you google or use DuckDuckGo it shows Telemundo as WODK, Wikipedia also shows WODK.

Most likely answers are coverage area and terrain, as both stations start with W they are licensed to communities on the Illinois side of the market which limits where there transmitters can be located if they are physically in Missouri. The second is also terrain, while not in the mountains, Greater St. Louis has a hilly topography that also limits how far a low power signal can travel.

Going by RabbitEars it looks like Sagamore leases WODK's main channel to extend coverage (both share the same tower site but different transmission patterns, with WODK covering more ground and the northwest part of the inner ring).

Seems like a translator coverage issue to ensure reception to the whole market.
