Former KUSA Anchor & Investigative reporter Ward Lucas passed away Sunday at 75, no word on his cause of death. He was part of a Netflix Documentary on the serial killer Ted Bundy, he worked at KUSA-TV from 1976--2009 when he retired, and before KUSA he started his career at Seattle's KIRO-TV from 1974-1976.. KUSA has tweaked it's opening sequence a bit with the launch today of a new 3pm newscast, The Peacock while still white is bigger, plus the station is now using a V/O for the opening of the 3pm newscast & for it's long established 4pm newscast.

This is just crossing the news wires: https://www.cnbc.com/2024/08/27/media-exec-bronfman-pulls-out-of-race-to-acquire-paramount.html CBS Corp & Paramount have been sold by National Amusements, Inc to Skydance Media, LLC. https://cordcuttersnews.com/sold-pluto-tv-paramount-have-been-sold-to-skydance-as-all-other-bidders-drop-out/?fbclid=IwY2xjawE6CvhleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHcPfkLCj7P_mYT5wi1UWShmtKftpxcF0oiG6mO2s1R9W3Tip0ZEnfXqWQg_aem_APDaa7BxPGjGFZUkrVdwRg

The Graphics are okay, better than Tegna but nothing that stands out..

Update: KDVR/KFCT has returned to FOX NEWS coverage the station, citing some technical issues with the FOX feed, they switched back at 1:30PM.
-
Don't know if other Nexstar stations have done this or not but KDVR & KFCT dropped a FOX NEWS Special Report, during an interview with Kevin Corke, to go to local coverage for aprox 5 mins before throwing to News Nation to cover Mr. Biden dropping his re-election bid. I find the choice to drop network coverage strange.

The 5pm newscast was the first broadcast from the new studios at least according to what they said at the top of the newscast.

I wonder how this sky dance deal eventually affects CBS NEWS & CBS News & Stations? That will be interesting to watch.

Sports reporter Arielle Orsuto is leaving KUSA & KTVD after this upcoming week. She will reveal plans on her future steps sometime next week. She has been with KUSA/KTVD for 5 years.

Glad to see this sort of... I have always thought that KUSA/KTVD were kind of the odd ones out here in Denver as every other station has a name for there weather segment. Maybe KUSA/KTVD won't use the composite radar image as much after this change, they to are the ones here who don't usually show a live sweep during severe weather events, just that composite image.

When does the move start? I had read mid/late July?

I think maybe CBS NEWS Local streams do better than the national stream? Almost all of there o&os have streams going, (maybe WFOR dosn't ??) I believe the local streams have a better mix of content than that of the national.

What is "NOSEY"?? I have noticed this sub channel on Wikipedia for WBBH & WDSU.

Denver now has 3 union TV stations all with NABET-CWA. KCNC [CBS] (since 9/95) *Engineering* KWGN [The CW] (since 3/24) *Assignment Desk* *Production* KDVR/KFCT [FOX] (since 3/24) *Assignment Desk* *Production* *Nexstar Media Group Master Control Hub* And maybe some of the Denver/Boulder Radio Stations??

The picture of the desk that I saw this evening, below gives off CBS EVENING NEWS Vibes, it looks very nice, but seems small..

KCNC to debut new set updated studio sometime next week. According to the stations Facebook.

KMGH Launched a Live Weather stream on May 28, 2024. https://www.denver7.com/liveweather

They could unload some stations to do it sure, but I don't think they WANT to, to much ad $ to be lost by Uncle Perry. IMO Nexstar should have been forced to unload more stations when they purchased Tribune but here we are.

Former KUSA, KCNC & KMGH Anchor John Rayburn has passed away at the age of 96. He worked at KCNC (then KOA-TV / NBC) from 1959-1963 as a sports anchor, KMGH (then KLZ-TV / CBS) as an anchor from 1963-1970 & then KUSA (then KBTV / ABC) from 1970-1980. Up until his death on Sunday he was doing some radio broadcasting, he was the first person to anchor the news at all 3 network stations in Denver. https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/john-rayburn-tv-anchor-denver-obituary/73-9d256c9b-b574-46bd-8158-b9a8c7d236d5

I have a question, is WFOR still one of the lower rated CBS stations or does that title now belong to someone else? I know WCIX/WFOR was a disaster for years.

KDVR & KWGN have streams.. https://kdvr.com/live/fox31/?ipid=live_fox31_nav https://kdvr.com/live/kwgn/ Or are these not what Mr. Sook considers "Streaming'??? I'm confused..
-
Okay question, what if WDIV declines to put the CW on one of it's digital sub channels? Then what does Nexstar do?

It will be interesting to see how fast traditional TV declines now that so much of the sports coverage has gone streaming. I'm sure most of the MLB & NFL games will be exclusively streaming in the coming years as the contracts come up.
