CBS 2 Posts Solid 2nd-Place Finish In Key Demo

CBS 2 News At 5, 6 & 11 Finish November Sweeps Period Second In Both Households And Adults

WCBS-TV Finishes As The Number-Two Station Sign-On/Sign-Off For The 4th Consecutive Sweeps Period

WCBSTV.com Remains New York's Fastest-Growing Local TV News Web Site

NEW YORK WCBS-TV has finished the November sweep with all its newscasts in second place among adults 25-54 for the first time since at least 1988. CBS 2 News at 5, 6 and 11 PM also finished in second place in both households and adults 25-54. This marks the first time since 1991 that the station's 11PM newscast has earned a second-place finish. "CBS 2 News This Morning" also finished second in adults 25-54, representing the newscast's first time finishing in second place since at least 1988. Additionally, the CBS flagship station finished as the number two station sign on/sign off for the fourth straight major sweep period in a row. CBS primetime also ranked second in the market.

Coinciding with the enormous success of CBS 2's on-air programming, WCBSTV.com continues to show tremendous growth and remains the fastest growing local TV news Web site in the New York market. November was the eleventh consecutive month in which WCBSTV.com has posted a triple digit-percentage in year-to-year traffic growth. For the month of November, video views for WCBSTV.com showed year-to-year growth of 267 percent. Thus far in 2007, WCBSTV.com has generated more than 200 percent more traffic than was generated during the entire year of 2006.

CBS2 HD's November highlights included:

"CBS 2 News This Morning" at 5 a.m. anchored by Maurice DuBois and Kate

Sullivan secured the number two slot in adults 25-54 delivering year-to-year growth of 67 percent and tied for the number two slot in households

"CBS 2 News This Morning" at 5 a.m. was the only newscast in its time period to increase year-to-year in households.

"CBS 2 News This Morning" at 6 a.m. finished in second place in adults 25-54 and showed year-to-year growth of 62% in households and 83% in adults 25-54.

CBS 2 News at Noon finished second in households in the time period and increased its audience over its lead-in programming for both households and adults

CBS 2 News at 5 p.m. anchors Kristine Johnson and Chris Wragge finished in second place in adults 25-54 and in households.

CBS 2 News at 5 p.m. posted year-to-year growth of 52 percent in households and was the only newscast in its time period to show year-to-year growth.

CBS 2 News at 6 p.m., anchored by Dana Tyler and Jim Rosenfield, finished a strong second in households. The newscast also finished second in adults 25-54 (among English-language stations) and was the only 6pm newscast to increase from last November

CBS 2 News at 11 p.m. with anchors Kristine Johnson and Chris Wragge finished in second place in households and adults 25-54, surpassing NewsChannel 4 for the first time in over 15 years in all key demos

At 3 p.m., "Dr. Phil" continues to hold strong finishing in first place in households and second place in adults 25-54

At 4 p.m., "Judge Judy" continues to be a strong asset to the station, finishing a solid second place in households with year-to-year growth of 30 percent and also finished in second place in adults 25-54.

At 7:00 p.m., "The Insider" finished second in households and adults 25-54

At 7:30 p.m., "Entertainment Tonight" finished second in households and adults 25-54

"CBS 2 News Saturday Morning" at 6 a.m. showed a whopping year-to-year growth of 167 percent in adults 25-54 finishing second in the time period

"CBS 2 News Saturday Morning" at 9 a.m. showed growth of 50 percent year-to-year in adults 25-54 finishing second in the time period

"CBS 2 News Sunday Morning" at 8 a.m. posted year-to-year growth of 22 percent in adults 25-54 finishing second in the time period

Looks like we're going to be stuck with The Dumpsters for a looooooooong while. I can't believe they got the #2 spot from Chuck and Sue. And as expected CBS 2 News @ 6 is on a solid #2 position, behind Eyewitness News. And CBS 2 News @ Noon ratings increased due to lead in from both adults and households.

Over at channel 4, their programming and lead in are crap that is why their newscasts are suffering. Also blame the budget cuts. Is Chris and Kristine better than Chuck and Sue, hell no. CBS2 just have stronger programming. And Amra you are right we got to deal with Chris and Kristine a little longer.

Overall Standings for November 2007

WABC-TV #1 In New York and In The Nation (By Number of Viewers) Eyewitness News wins all races in all timeslots. This probably explains why WABC hasn't made any changes to their graphics and etc.. Because management has it in their minds that the viewers are content with what is being presented to them already. "If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It"

WCBS-TV #2 In New York CBS 2 News overall average ranks the channel in second place. Again there is a response to the former broken station. Last year there were many changes and the changes seem to have payed off, they are now ranked #2 and have taken over WNBC's ranking.

WNBC-TV #3 In New York NewsChannel 4's overall average ranks the channel in third place. WNBC has dropped, there is really no explanation as to why, perhaps the removal of Live at Five had an effect on loyal viewers, but overall there is no reason though that should allow them to drop significantly. Perhaps New York is getting tired of old Chuck and Sue Pair? Maybe its time for change?

Couldn't get a nice chart like Nathan's Virginia List but this is the closest I found.

I guess the viewers are getting tired of Chuck and Sue. And are looking for new faces. I mean, thats what increased CBS 2's ratings. Also CBS 2 has been really working hard on their presentation and graphics. And overall, the viewers have answered to them. NBC 4 is good too, don't get me wrong, but I guess the New Yorkers chose to watch CBS 2 as an alternative. I guess the removal of Live at Five had cost NBC 4 many viewers. As for 7 being number 1, many people watch that channel out of habit, I admit that I myself watch it out of habit, I don't watch it because its my favorite channel or anything like that, I just watch it because it happens to have a majority of shows on it that are of interest to me, just like when I used to watch NBC for Fear Factor and I still watch it today for Heroes. I believe that the network's programming has a major influence on the local channel's ratings.

I dont think they are tired of Chuck and Sue, WNBC programming just suck period. The lead in for the newscasts are terrible. WNBC handed over 2nd place to WCBS.

And you're definitely right about NBC and WNBC's programming. They really have nothing to offer this year, nothing interesting at all so thats why they have taken the fall, and plus there really haven't been any notable changes done in their news department other than the New York Nightly News, which could be really nice, but unfortunately there isn't any good lead outs or lead ins. Only good show worth watching on NBC is Heroes.

I can't wait until people get tired of WABC. Just like how CBS3 and 6ABC in Phily are battling it out. I think WCBS has the potential to take over #1, perhaps another year. They're building up quite a news team. Let's face it, prior to Chris/kristine at 11pm, WNBC was still leading, even though CBS had higher prime time lead-ins. Dana/Jim didn't bring up ratings. Chris/Kristine has proven themselves and to everyone else that they deserve to be the "A Team" on WCBS.

They don't deserve shit. Actually under the Dumpsters the ratings for the 11PM News FELL

Nov.07 Nov. 06

WABC 11pm Eyewtns News M-F 6.3/12 6.2/11

WCBS CBS2 News at 11 M-F 5.2/10 5.4/10

WNBC NewsChannel 4 at 11 M-F 4.4/8 5.8/11

The only news that actually grew audience is Eyewitness News. WCBS looks impressive because Chuck and Sue fell from 2nd place. But under Dana & Jim the newscast grew audience, not lost audience like Chris/Kristine did. I really hope that Dunn check the numbers and realize the stupidity he did. So NO, the Chrises don't deserve to be A-Team on CBS 2. They need to be the S-Team there.

I dont think Kristine and Chris as nothing to do with the ratings increase. If you check out Judge Judy ratings at 4pm it is very impressive and is way up from this time last year which lead into CBS2 News at 5. Judy Judy even beat out Oprah sometimes. And as Amra said CBS News at 11 is down. What made CBS2 look good this november sweeps is because WNBC took a nose dive. WCBS have a lot of catching up to do in order beat out WABC.

If CBS2 didnt have Judy Judy they would not able to brag for second place.

Thanks for proving my point. And last year when Dana & Jim were together, they trailed Chuck and Sue by .4 points.

Evidence here again:

Nov.07 Nov. 06

WABC 11pm Eyewtns News M-F 6.3/12 6.2/11

WCBS CBS2 News at 11 M-F 5.2/10 5.4/10

WNBC NewsChannel 4 at 11 M-F 4.4/8 5.8/11

Lead in for the 5 and 6 news:

WABC Oprah Winfrey 5.3/14 6.9/17

WABC 5pm Eyewitness News 6.6/15 6.7/15

WCBS Judge Judy 4-5pm 5.1/14 3.9/10

WCBS CBS2 News at 5 4.7/11 3.1/7

WABC 6pm Eyewitness News 6.5/14 6.9/14

WCBS CBS2 News at 6 3.7/8 3.3/7

The best decision was to put Jim & Dana for the fluff o clock show and let them anchor at 11.
