Updating the World News Set

SevenHD

It looks like ABC will be making some changes to there set for World News Tonight. Tonight they broadcasted from some temporary set. It seemed very small. Charlie did not stand up at all. They have been in this small temorary set for three days now. They would not even zoom out when the closing music came on. So I guess its really tiny.

I hope they don't make to many changes to the set because I loved it the way it was. When it was first introduced in 2004 it had no color and looked very boring. Then in 2006 they made some nice changes which made a big difference.

This rendering (http://www.gadesigns.net/HTML/newsroom.html) by George Allison Designs is the direction ABC News should have taken - It looks great! I thought that the more recent remodel during the Peter Jennings era (http://www.setstudio.com/pages/abcnews/) was underwhelming by comparison. The small updates they did when Charlie came aboard helped, but I never really cared for this incarnation. Hopefully the studio will take a few cues from George Allison's rendering...

I wonder how long this is going to take. I have a feeling not to long because they did not mention it. I'm guessing it will be done by the begining of the new year which was the exact setup they did when they previously updated it when Elizabeth and Bob took over two years ago.

I'm hoping a graphics change comes along with the updated set as well. I can't believe they ditched the best graphics package that came in 2004 for the Ice Cubes design that came along with Elizabitch...er...beth and Bob.

The new set will be HD compliant and will debut shortly after the New Year begins. "World News" will go HD later in 2008.

Not totally. Field reports will still be done in SD. ABC just bought a batch of Sony PDW 510 XDCAM's which record's in Sony's DVCAM codec.
