Some of you may know POP TV as the station in Slovenia that uses music by Gari Communications.

Well, POP TV just unveiled new graphics and what is described as a state-of-the-art, American-designed set.

I'll try to post the new look here tomorrow, but before I do, here's how things looked before the change:

Old Look

OLD NEWS OPEN (YouTube video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAbZGN5nt4Q

The Move

And here's a report that aired a day before the changes. It includes a look back at the history of the old set and a preview of the new one.

Most of the report is in Slovenian, of course, but soundbites from American set designers who worked on the new set are in English.

Croatia: RTL Televizija 2006 Open, using a "News Line"-esque theme (of course, its German sister used News Line in the 90s):

And the clean version:

Great find! BTW, here's RTL Televizija's current open:

And here's Nova TV, their competitor:

Stephen Arnold did a good job integrating a "Thai" sound into Signature.

As for NBT, they only use one cut from Evolution? Further, the female anchor (I stopped watching after about 4 minutes) kept talking. Am I missing something, or in a two anchor setup the other anchor talks at some point?

I actually assumed it was an in-house job by TVThai.

What I find with foreign stations using American news themes is that they tend to use very few cuts out of the whole package (sometimes even just one). ThaiPBS/TVThai using a wide selection of cuts from Extreme and Signature seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Doesn't seem to make sense to pay for the whole package just to use one cut; I dunno if they are somehow licensed under different terms.

Case in point, that news magazine on China's state TV network which uses a cut from B Package as the pre-show bumper, Advantage as the show open, and Newschannel as the close. I really don't see CCTV paying for 3 packages only to use one cut from each, so I'm guessing those cuts were licensed from Gari as some form of production music.

As for the NBT anchors... the male anchor started talking pretty much after you stopped watching. I really don't know what the deal is with them. I'll guess they're just long-winded and verbose in their newswriting, judging from the absurdly long pre-show bumper (which also seems to be a recurring theme among the other Thai channels)...

If was in-house, they did a good job. The main reason I would have thought Stephen Arnold might have done it is because the regional flavors packages end up with. A good Example is KABB in San Antonio. (KABB Sinclair News Package)

Those of you who are regulars at The Newsroom on TVForum.co.uk have already seen it, but here's another really interesting compilation from YouTube user TeleVizjaTrizondal, this one with several current news opens from Austria, the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Armenia, and China:

CFCF Montreal 2010 6pm Open/Recap/Long Credit Close:

 uhhh, what's with the sour anchors? They look like they're attending a funeral. The set's kind of off-putting in its 4-people-sitting-in-a-completely-straight-line way. I'm not a huge fan of the "Dynasty 1990's" graphical look.

Edmonton's way overdue for a new set. Hadn't they been on the same set since the mid 90s?

I like the camera angles they're using, but it's slightly unnerving to see Vassy Kapelos without so much as a shadow while backdrop is reflected on the floor...

Just checked Global Calgary. They're using the new graphics now, but still on the temp set.
