Alecia Lane let go from KYW

Gee, what a huge mistake. She was the face of the station, and now she's gone. At this point, I do not see any particular female anchor who could step into the role Alycia Lane had, except for Pat Ciarrochi that is. I heard that she had quickly hired a lawyer within the last couple of days. My guess is that she got a really nice severence package.

"I don't give a fuck who you are. I am a reporter, you fucking dyke." -Alycia Lane

Meh. Serves her right. When you have a code of conduct clause in your contract, it means just that. No station will sit there and let their number 1 anchor appear on the front page of the newspapers reporting on said anchor's latest misadventure. This move is best for both the station and Lane. 3 gets rid of a PR (public relations not Puerto Rican, so don't even start baseless flaming) headache, and for Lane this can be the kick in the ass she needs to grow the fuck up.

And quick aside, Nate it's Alycia A-L-Y-C-I-A.

Other shoe, meet floor.

Not surprising, but as I wrote here when the stories went down, this is what KYW needed to do in order to move forward. I think Michael Colleran's statement hits all of the right notes. It's a SERIES of incidents - not just what happened in NYC. It's what they needed to do.

I don't think this termination was mutual, either. The wording of the press release doesn't say "KYW and Alycia Lane have agreed to part ways". It's "KYW has released Alycia Lane from her contract" - basically, she's fired. There's rumblings she's going to sue, which I wouldn't be surprised if she does.

She would have no base if there is a code of conduct clause in her contract and there is no station in the world that wouldn't hold the faces of their stations to a code of conduct or morals clause. It just isn't done.

And via KYW 1060, here's Alycia's statement:

"We have learned today that KYW-TV (Channel 3) has unilaterally terminated Alycia Lane's employment. The conduct of KYW-TV is contrary to the terms of her Employment Contract which has many additional years remaining. The termination comes at a time when there has been absolutely no determination that Alycia is guilty of any wrongful conduct, and after KYW-TV has aired her categorical denial of the alleged charge that is pending against her. The termination is unfair because Alycia has never had an opportunity to defend against this charge, and tell her side of the story publicly, before KYW-TV has taken this unusual and unwarranted step to terminate her employment. Obviously, on the advice of counsel, Alycia cannot talk about these matters because of the matter that is pending in New York."

I'm not surprised at all.

I knew something like this was going to happen ever since that incident took place. I think that Alycia's personal image has been forever tarnished because of the crap that she pulled.

I think this point bears emphasizing: this is not the end of her career.

Someone, somewhere, will hire her. And it won't be in market #103 or something like that either. Stations are always looking for the next new face to lead them to the promised land, and to hell with any indiscretions in the past. I would not be surprised if this time next year, she's in a prominent position at a big market station.

Sharon Reed landed on her feet. Joe Vasquez landed on his feet. Alycia Lane will land on her feet.

She would have no base if there is a code of conduct clause in her contract and there is no station in the world that wouldn't hold the faces of their stations to a code of conduct or morals clause. It just isn't done.

I think calling the GOV is what did her in.

Clause or not she is innocent until proven guilty.

Other incidents? Bikini Pics? I'm sure she wanted that in the news. Other then that what is there, she dated a New York anchor, big deal. The gossip columns made that news by taking pictures at her house. Why did she have to get followed? It's a little creepy to me that this city makes news anchors celebrities.

So I wouldn't say all these series of events.

News stations want the pretty woman for ratings and then blame her or others when she is constantly is in the news.

It's just sad no matter what, and yes she will land on her feet.

She was on Dr. Phil twice after both of her divorces cause she is a fucking whack-a-doo. No station want's that headache.

She'll land somewhere. That's a given. Shame it had to end that way. Channel 3 is in the same position 10 was in a few years ago with getting a point away from the top spot at 11pm, then things fell apart. She's pretty stupid. You're that close to being the #1 news leader and you screw up. Let's hope 3 doesn't fall away from competition.

I agree with your whole post, but this final line sums it up best.

Does anyone here think that going on Dr. Phil was her idea? Let's nix that idea. That was cross-promotion and "corporate synergy", and it was pushed down from high above. CBS was heavily into any Dr. Phil promotion they could get at the time. Remember the "tips" during NEWS programs? And for those who may say she could have always said "no"....well, it's not that simple, depending on who is strongly "encouraging" you to do it. In the summation of all that has happened, the Dr. Phil was, overall, bad PR for the station, but not something initiated by her.

Alycia wont be out of a job too long. She might end up at WCBS New York as an anchor. You never know.

Just as HulkieD wrote, she will wind up somewhere. I would be highly surprised if it was WCBS. As I have heard, the GM there was a bit pissed that she didn't switch to NY and chose to re-sign with KYW instead. That GM is one to hold grudges.

Alycia Lane may just be the catch WBBM in Chicago needs. Instead of trying to be more like WLS, maybe they could go in a "more hip" direction.

I can just picture it now..

A much faster pace CBS 2 News at 5 & 10 with a "more hip" anchor line-up: Rob Johnson, Alycia Lane (replacing Diann Burns), Meteorologist Steve Baskerville, and Meghan Mawicke (replacing Mark Malone) on sports. Alycia Lane fits well WBBM's current talent rejoin (

) with the hard electric guitar cut of Enforcer New Generation perfectly. Just replace voiceover Bill Ratner with Vic Caroli or Joe Cipriano. The newscast itself is a more action-filled newscast with more "walking and talking" style reporting like WBBM used to do years ago and even the "walk and talk" style anchoring in the studio in front of large plasma screens. Instead of playing the Enforcer theme for the closing of the 10PM newscast, CBS 2 News at 10 closes with an instrumental only Cyndi Lauper's "All Through The Night" (no lyrics).

When Alycia first arrives in town, CBS 2 bombards the airwaves with promos for Alycia using Roxette's hit, "Dangerous". The promos focus more on her looks than anything else.

Of course, that most likely won't happen.. However, things for Alycia Lane are only going to get better. All I can say is don't be surprised to see Alycia Lane reporting for a network news. She's got alot of what the business is looking for nowadays.

Exactly the point, Thunderjay. If someone is uncapable of holding it together knowing that your station is making a play for #1, that person doesn't have the professional chops. FWIW, it wasn't just this NY event or the bikini pics. Or dating the NY anchor. Who cares about that. It was her crying on Dr. Phil about her first divorce. Bringing her soon-to-be-husband on Dr. Phil. Her second marriage ending almost as quickly as it began with talk that she was hooking up with someone else. She has no sense of decorum.

Just as HulkieD wrote, she will wind up somewhere. I would be highly surprised if it was WCBS. As I have heard, the GM there was a bit pissed that she didn't switch to NY and chose to re-sign with KYW instead. That GM is one to hold grudges.

If she does go to 2, that will be one cold office.

It's a damn shame, but considering her past, she either deserved to be dumped or did not deserve. It's a toss up in a sense because she did have behavioral problems in the past that would constitute such disciplinary action, but there is no verdict on this final straw. Yes, folks, in a way, television news is going to hell, right there in that place between Adolf Hilter and the Ford Pinto!

As for Alycia, my advice is to take a long vacation in far away land, probably discover a new religion or spiritual healing technique, and then if you're ready, find a new gig. Television, in general, can sometimes make normal people do crazy s**t, just ask Christine Chubbuck.
