Bsean 165 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 ...I just saw a promo for FOX5 San Diego on KSWB during their evening comedy line up. The logo looked nice.
A3N 1002 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 ...I just saw a promo for FOX5 San Diego on KSWB during their evening comedy line up. The logo looked nice. Really? Wow. I am shocked that they would start to promote "FOX 5" this early on, seeing as that they won't get the FOX affiliation until sometime in late August.

I am shocked that they would start to promote "FOX 5" this early on' date=' seeing as that they won't get the FOX affiliation until sometime in late August.[/quote'] I know, it caught me off guard... but I do remember hearing they were gonna start advertising early.
A3N 1002 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Just saw the new promo, and I thought it was kind of catchy by making fun of the beach booze ban that San Diego has in effect. Here is a picture of the new logo, which is ok, but I think that it looks like it's only temporary.
CircleSeven 1963 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Yeah, that "5" looks a bit sick, since that's the 5 they're current use on their current logo. I wouldn't doubt that they would come up with a better "FOX 5" logo once the change goes in effect in August. I still feel sorry for XETV that they're about to lose FOX after over two decades.
channel2 982 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Where do you think The CW's going to go? Probably not XETV. Maybe KUSI?
WWSBfan 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I kinda like the logo. Better than doing some FOX O&O look alike.... I agree. I like the logo. It's nice & definitely better than the FNC logo that most FOX stations have taken for themselves. Logo screams 2001. I liked 2001, good times. I don't mind that it screams 2001!
channel2 982 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 I liked 2001, good times. I don't mind that it screams 2001! 2001... good times for graphic design. Back when everything didn't look like a downright clone of everything! Also, I'm deleting that post about where The CW's going to go, providing that no-one (not even me) cares.
Ntropolis 600 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 2001... good times for graphic design. Back when everything didn't look like a downright clone of everything! So true! This new KSWB logo looks like it was done on a whim, kinda flat, maybe the real one will be more graphically "enhanced." I actually like how the FOX logo touches the outside of it...
A3N 1002 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Here is the new promo I uploaded on Youtube... [yt]WvUDLsDTCJQ&fmt[/yt]
Bsean 165 Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 I am really looking forward to seeing the debut of their newscasts. I just hope they go with the best graphics and music. I want them to bring back the Flashpoint package from 615 that KTLA used to use. I think that could be a good fit. On another note, have we heard any rumors as to where CW is going?
WAVY 10 Fan 233 Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Edit: Found this on XETV's Wikipedia page: In March 2008 Tribune Broadcasting announced that its San Diego station, current CW Television Network affiliate KSWB-TV, would be switching to Fox in August 2008. The fate of both XETV and the CW affiliation for the San Diego market remains unclear as of this revision. This will also leave XETV's sister station, XHRIO-TV in Matamoros, Tamaulipas (serving the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas), as the only Fox affiliate to originate in Mexico. XETV plans on fighting the affiliation switch in court, saying the switch violates a contract XETV has with Fox to run until 2010. In addition, XETV did not know about the affiliation change until the switch announcement was made public. Looks like the station doesn't want to give up its FOX affiliation without a fight.
A3N 1002 Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 XETV will lose the FOX affiliation either way. I read an article in The North County Times, and it said that the GM of XETV was telling his employees to "prepare to go independent come August." Yeah, they will file suit, but ultimately they will lose. Now, XETV is probably exploring its other alternatives, and i'm pretty sure that if XETV loses FOX their next best option is to get the CW. We will see what happens, a lot will go on between now and August 1st.

I want them to bring back the Flashpoint package from 615 that KTLA used to use. I think that could be a good fit. I think that they might go with a look similar to KTXL and KCPQ, with the Giant Octopus graphics. As for music, I think that they could pick up Chicago's Very Own or In-Sink. That is just speculation on my part, based on the other Tribune FOX affiliates.
A3N 1002 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Well, it looks like FOX 5 San Diego [KSWB-TV] has decided to adopt the FOX O&O look. They changed their logo. Guess the other logo was just temporary, anyways the new one looks ok. Here is the new promo... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h2Ho1n-R44
TSSZNews 1053 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Yeah, that "5" looks a bit sick, since that's the 5 they're current use on their current logo. And at the time, that was probably not accidental. The new one looks a bit more original but...meh. FOX needs to provide all its affiliates with some sort of logo toolkit or something, if all the affiliates now want the vertical logo. -T
SFTV 540 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 makes KNSD's O&O logo look like crap now that KSWB already dropped the analog 69 when they switched to the CW and Branded themselves as CW 5 instead of its old KSWB 5-sixty nine San Diego's WB. The New FOX 5 logo makes the station look more O&O. when the digital switch happens. I wonder how KNSD will brand themselves....NBC 7?
WWSBfan 0 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I don't like it. I liked the original one better. Now it's just crap.
Ntropolis 600 Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 I wonder how KNSD will brand themselves....NBC 7? Probably NBC 7/39... unless they can somehow get a waiver from the FCC to get their digital channel to map to 7.
caliwxdude 255 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Yeah, that new logo is a bit of a disappointment, but it's not at all surprising. The real disappointment will be if KSWB's new news operation isn't in high definition when it (re)launches in August. Does anyone know if they kept all the infrastructure intact (control rooms, studios, etc.) when they canned the news department back in 2005? You'd have to think any news operation built from the ground up like this is purported to be would be HD from the beginning. Also, I can't believe there hasn't been ANY news on what's going to happen with XETV come August. Are they going to shutter the news department, wipe their hands and walk away? I'd be sending out tapes like crazy (or blowing up Sam Zell's phone) if I were one of the unlucky ones still working there.

I'd be sending out tapes like crazy (or blowing up Sam Zell's phone) if I were one of the unlucky ones still working there. Last I heard, KSWB still had their field cameras. They must have their control room if they continue to produce the local morning news cut ins. They still have their studio, as they use part of it for the morning updates, and the interview set they use for TAKE 5. One interesting note though, KSWB had a job posting for a news director, and it has since been taken down. All at the same time, rumors are swirling on tvspy that Rich Goldner ND at KTLA will be coming to San Diego to take the same spot. I bet that "FOX 5" will be in HD, as it really doesn't make any sense to re-build a news department with SD equipment. In regards to XETV, everything is quiet. Last I heard was that they were going to take FOX to court, (guess, that won't happen). However, I find it kind of interesting that KUSI has been added to COX's HD tier, when KUSI does not produce or show anything in HD. Leave's me wondering if they will get The CW?
