KTTV to start new newscast 12/8

They should do a newscast at 1pm & 3:30pm, that way we can have a local news all day long between all the stations. JUST KIDDING. ;-)

i know right?! but wait what station in LA has news at 7pm tho? besides KGTV in San Diego at 7

i love KCAL's news schedule because they are on at random times. I watch them on the web at 2, its very convienent.

KUSI should take notes in my opinion instead of their 2 min More Local News updates at the top of every hour.

I dont like the reruns of KGTV's Newscasts on Newschannel 110. However, i miss their News Channel 15 when it was on cable and its private 1ONEWS at 9pm (before FOX6 and WB News At Ten launched newscasts) on channel 15 while they run ABC Primetime programming on channel 10

Mediaweek reports that KTTV will start a new 30 minute Noon newscast starting Monday 12/8. Jean' date=' Tony, Lisa, and Maria will anchor.[/quote']

Ahh....The Midday News is Back....though we won't see Bill Smith, Nancy Nelson or Donna Deaner-Brice this time...good idea, though KCAL is clearly the leader in this time slot.

This makes me wonder if KTTV might even consider doing a 5 and 6pm newscast...even though they clearly can never compete against the powerful KABC and KNBC.

First of all, if I were KTTV, I would start by making KTTV more news-centric and KCOP more entertainment focused. Move the Simpsons and all other entertainment shows to KTTV, dump all of the other crappy useless repeats (Malcolm in the Middle, That 70's Show, House of Payne) as well as excessive repeats of shows such as Three showings of TMZ, two of Tyra, Three Simpsons, etc...and most importantly hire new staff....Tony and Jean must be very exhausted anchoring all those shows. Maybe they should bring John Beard back to anchor the 5pm news.

BTW....KCBS and KCOP at one time experimented with 7pm newscasts and KABC, KCAL and KCBS with 6:30 newscasts...all failed.

Nevertheless I am glad to see KTTV become more news centric....Like I said, 5-10:30 am news/12 noon News/ along with 5p and 6p News/ 10p and 11p News...good idea.

I don't know why KTTV seems to air lower rated syndicated shows in the evening like Malcolm in the Middle, King of the Hill, and The Simpsons and not higher rated ones like That 70s Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Seinfeld which air on KCOP.

Fox 11 airs '70s and Raymond every weeknight at 12 and 12:30am respectively, and when 11/13 got the Seinfeld rights from KTLA several years ago, KTTV aired an additional episode at 11:30pm. The Kings of Queens reruns were originally on 11 in '04, before shifting over to 13 the following fall. As far as lower-rated vs. higher-rated, even though 13 is a dumping ground, you still need people to watch them.

They should just combine the 10am newscast with the noon broadcast, and just make it a straight hour from 12 to 1pm.

You're wrong about the 6:30 PM newscast on KABC. KABC never had a 6:30 PM newscast, they had a FULL HOUR of news at 6 PM, just as KNBC and KCBS (KNXT) had since the 1960's (KABC started in the early 70's). They only started to cut their newscasts at 6 to 1/2 hour and move up the network newscasts to 6:30 PM because their parent companies made them add off-network first run programming at 7 and 7:30 to make more money (much of which owned by their parent companies today).

KCBS 6:30 PM newscast was a good idea since they were such a failure in the early evening news race. They flipped the local 6 PM news with the CBS Evening News which had already been moved once to 6:30 PM (from 7 PM). It didn't help but nobody was watching KCBS at that time.

I do not recall a 7 PM local news on KCBS. Just 6:30 PM with the CBS Evening News at 6 PM.

Young Broadcasting added the 6:30 PM news at KCAL. It wasn't on long enough to say it was a failure. The newscast was moved to 2 PM to make room for syndicated off-network reruns Young acquired that had to be run in early evening fringe so it wasn't ratings that led to its demise.

KCOP had a 7:30 PM newscast in the late 90's not 7 PM. KCOP has never been a respected news leader in Los Angeles (maybe during the L.A. riots in 1992) but I would say was putting out a good product just before Fox bought them.

KNBC had a 7 PM newscast during the Olympics a few years back. That was a big winner. I know, it was sandwiched betwen Olympic coverage.

Until a few years ago, KNBC's 6 PM news was repeated at 7 PM on what is now the ION network station (Channel 30 - which also repeated their 11 PM news at 11:30 PM).

I'm already missing that last 1/2 hour of news on KCOP between 11:30 PM and Midnight. I liked that.

Local news was a big winner between 6:30 and 7 PM when the three network o&o's had local newscasts for a full hour and it can be again. Fox 11 should go for it. We DON'T need anymore news at 5 or 6 PM. What Los Angeles NEEDS is a newscast at 6:30, 7 or 7:30 PM.

Oh ok, I was actually referring to KABC's hour long newscast...but during the late 1980's under Capital Cities...KABC's 6:30pm newscast was called "Eyewitness Update" it was 30 minute newscast completely separate from the 4-630 news, more of a recap and discussion styled newscast. It, like you said, was canceled in 1990.

Actually KCBS briefly had a 7pm newscast in 1986, it was called "The Southern California Evening News"...anchored by Steve Kmetko and Tricia Toyota...it never lasted.

Geez these long posts, giving me cataracts.
