NewsJunkie247 1
This evening on CBS 2 News at 6, during Lonnie Quinn's 7 day forecast, The Weather Channel logo appeared in the top right corner. The problem is - The Weather Channel is now owned by NBC Universal and infact, on New York Nightly News tonight, Janice Huff said at the end of her forecast that viewers can go to The Weather Channel on cable or weather.com! WCBS had a partnership with The Weather Channel from 2006 to 2008 until NBC bought the network. CBS2HD 1
This error has happened numerous amounts of times already since the partnership between WCBS and The Weather Channel ended. I'm not sure if it's being done on purpose to mislead the viewers or was it by accident? Then again, it has happened on A LOT of occasions already. I'm sure NBC will and can take action if the problem persists. Weeters 1916
Anyone who's ever seen a meteorologist put together a forecast on the weather computers knows that weather graphics systems rely heavily on templates. Apparently the old templates haven't been deleted yet. I don't think they're trying to "mislead" the viewer. Geoffrey 861
It's actually not an error. I don't really understand why but The Weather Channel's logo appearing on the 6:00 seven-day forecast is intentional. SuitSnob 19
I blame Lonnie. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4955-whoops-error-on-cbs-2-news-at-6/#findComment-46457 Share on other sites
username23 1
It's likely not just Lonnie's fault, although he would share some of the blame for not reviewing the slides. There's a team of people who work behind the scenes to interpret the data and work to understand the wx, so it's all of their faults if there is indeed a mistake. SuitSnob 19
I STILL blame Lonnie...just on principle! Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4955-whoops-error-on-cbs-2-news-at-6/#findComment-46460 Share on other sites
knightofni 2
It's the weather producer's fault for using an old template or not taking off the logo. PIX using a Capital One logo because it's sponsored. If it ended, they take off the logo permanently but that's up to the producer. As if Lonnie can do all this by himself anyway! Sam Champion 2.0 From a management standpoint this is a HUGE problem, although I'm not sure anyone at the Deuce would even recognize it, let alone care. If it happens a lot, maybe a certain producer should be relieved. IceManNYR 240
Seems they can't or have not fixed it. The Weather Channel logo is still on the 7 day forecast. :o Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4955-whoops-error-on-cbs-2-news-at-6/#findComment-46565 Share on other sites
Geoffrey 861
Again, it's not a matter of "fixing" as there is no mistake. It's intentional. I don't know why but I know that it is. It's weird, though. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4955-whoops-error-on-cbs-2-news-at-6/#findComment-46576 Share on other sites
wabceyewitness 818
Maybe WCBS and The Weather Channel's contract with each other didn't void just because of NBCU's purchase of Weather Channel? It could be a contract stipulation that both sides are letting run its course. Doesn't make much business sense, but if the contract requires the logo there, it's gotta be there. Just not sure why sometimes it doesn't show up. NYNews 54
Not only does it appear on 6pm weeknights, it also appears on the weekends. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/4955-whoops-error-on-cbs-2-news-at-6/#findComment-46590 Share on other sites
civic110 18
Maybe CBS2 and TWC still have something. While watching The Weather Channel last night, they were showing footage from the wind damage around NYC, and the courtesy was WCBS. I was a little surprised it wasn't WNBC. While watching The Weather Channel last night, they were showing footage from the wind damage around NYC, and the courtesy was WCBS. I was a little surprised it wasn't WNBC. Thats odd because at the end of Janice Huff's weather reports on WNBC, she usually says "For weather anytime go to weather.com or The Weather Channel on cable." Also, right after NBC bought The Weather Channel, WCBS took down TWC logo in the weather center and the anchors stopped saying "Now here is your forcast from CBS 2 and The Weather Channel."
