IceManNYR 240
I'm I correct that only PIX is doing live remotes in HD? The first two live reports were in HD. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5001-hd-live-remotes-in-nyc/ Share on other sites

Because most stations do SD upconverted into HD... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5001-hd-live-remotes-in-nyc/#findComment-46922 Share on other sites
caliwxdude 254
I'm pretty sure that WPIX has the capability to do HD backhaul from at least one of their live trucks, since I seem to recall seeing a few screen grabs somewhere and the live shot was definitely in HD. KSWB, another Tribune station, has an entire fleet of HD live trucks. KTLA is close to installing the necessary H.264 encoders in their trucks as well, which would make them second in the Los Angeles market with HD live shots (KABC also has a few HD-equipped trucks). I seem to remember reading somewhere that WCBS was also experimenting with HD backhaul from a live truck, but they were having a hard time hitting some of their ENG receive sites because of the feast-or-famine nature of digital transmission, and the tall buildings in Manhattan were only complicating things even more. Yes, I was talking about stations doing full 720p or 1080i live remotes. Vlad 325
Well as far as I know, very few stations have HD trucks or broadcast in HD from their live shots, most live shots are done in SD Widescreen and upconverted into 720p or 1080i (depending on the format the station broadcasts in) which is obviously not truly HD. There are many field cameras cameras throughout the city that are in HD, but I've yet to see a live report in True HD. I know KABC has very few of these trucks that enable them to do true HD live reports, but I have not seen any from WABC or any other station. So WPIX surely is the first one in that case.. StudioTech 15
It looks like PIX added a 3rd HD camera for tonight's newscast. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5001-hd-live-remotes-in-nyc/#findComment-47028 Share on other sites
TrfRptr 3
I would say 95% of field operations for stations across the country will be up-converted "HD." And slowly over the next 5-10 years, as money permits, stations will go full HD. I don't expect any country (or major network for that matter) will be 100% HD in the next year. username23 1
I believe PIX has 2 HD capable trucks (I think its 720). The others are upconverted. It's easier with the sat trucks than ENG because of the previously mentioned problems. Plus the equipment to convert an ENG is expensive. I wouldn't expect to see too many new HD toys, its tough times all around. Vlad 325
Yeah maybe by 2015 we'll see full HD all around. And then they'll probably start talking about Super-HiVision TV lol or Ultra HD..
