Bsean 152 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Has anyone noticed the XETV has completely done away with their sports segments, including that Sunday Sports Show. The sports personalities' bios are no longer on the site.
1place4news 5 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The whole department was shut down about a month ago. And word is several more people in the news department were let go last week. Their 10pm news is also down to 30 minutes from 1 hour, but they still run their 11 minute newscast on weeknights. The line up looks like this: News 10-10:30, Seinfeld 10:30-11, News 11-11:11. It's not looking good. They are consistently losing to KUSI and KSWB at 10, and the morning numbers aren't that great either. There's even a rumor going around that managment at one point made an announcement forbiding staffers from laughing and smiling in the newsroom because times are so dire. At the rate of cutbacks and layoffs, don't rule out the possibility of news at 6 being cut altogether by the end of the year.
nbc9houston 22 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The last thing XETV would do (if the news doesn't go off the air for a while) would be to forbade on-air chatter between anchors and/or the weather caster. It's all very sad what's been going on since they lost Fox.
A3N 1002 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Blame all the problems that XETV has been having on management. They screw up a good station by losing the FOX affiliation and then they end up letting go of good hard working people and yet they are still employed. Go figure. This is only the beginning of the end.
Bsean 152 Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 And on the other hand, KSWB is hiring a full time sports anchor and adding a sports segment to it's weeknight newscasts: http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/apr/03/1s3medianote001551-kswb-add-sportscaster-shimabuku/
A3N 1002 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 “Our philosophy hasn't changed,” said Goldner, whose station started producing its own news in August. “It's still an emphasis on local sports how we can do more local stories in the community here in San Diego. I love that quote. How has the philosophy not changed? When FOX 5 first started up, they said that there wouldn't be a regular sports segment because they weren't SportsCenter and now they are backtracking. Wonder what change their minds? Now i'm hoping that they sit both anchors at the main desk instead of having one anchor sit in Kearny Mesa and the other in Mission Valley.

SFTV 532 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 they'll be changing the sports music to this. eww LOL
