jerseyfla 207
The All Childrens Hospital telethon is a tradition that spans 26 years on WFLA. I love how die hard hockey fans still complain about something like this when clearly everyone who follows television in the Tampa Bay area and I being a huge hockey fan knows that this telethon means so much to this community and Children's Miracle Network nationally. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't they build a new hospital from telethon pledges a few years ago. I think Game 1 should've went to WFLA's RTN subchannel but of course most of those who have satellite, don't use an antenna to get subchannels for 24 hour weather like I do. Thankfully, Sun Sports was able to pick up the game. Edit: After reading the first 10 comments on the TBO site, I am sickened at how people have no clue the importance of this telethon and that it's not the network fault for doing this, it's WFLA!! And the Obama statements are completely senseless, but of course they don't know about the inside workings of tv like we do here. We have preemption issues in St. Louis because some of the Cardinal games are on KSDK. When that happens the local My network TV affiliate WRBU usually picks it up. As far as the Obama comments. It's the Tampa Tribune, it's a newspaper with a strong conservative lean. Some of their readers would blame Obama if it was raining outside. 10Viewer 335
It would be perfect if WTOG picked up the game. That being said, there is probably no human being still at WTOG's studios, just computer terminals. You probably have to call a 1-800 number to get somebody at Viacom. TSSZNews 1052
And here I thought WFLA would run a telethon for themselves. It sounds like they sure could use it. -T Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5400-wfla-pre-empting-stanley-cup-for-telethon/#findComment-50487 Share on other sites
justin2kx 237
The way i've read the comments, I don't care if Tampa has the most rabid hockey fans in the land, it's the Telethon, and very important at it. The Tampa Bay Lightning are not playing in the stanley cup finals, the PITTSBURGH Penguins and the DETROIT Red Wings ARE! IF and only IF the Lightning are playing for the cup, then that's another story, but they're NOT! WFLA therefore can do whatever they want. I feel no sympathy for the fans at all. That's like for example WNBC is blasted by NY Rangers fans complaining the same thing. Come on.
