NYNews 54
I just saw a commercial about the newsmagazine show "Inside Edition" moving to WPIX to the 6pm weeknight time slot. They also have "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" on at 5pm. I don't watch these shows regularly, but from the looks of them, they seem weak for lead-ins. NewsJunkie247 1
Actually, I think Inside Edition would be a better lead-in to their 6:30 newscast than Family Guy which is aired in that time spot now. Viewers of Family Guy aren't going to want to watch local news. Atleast Inside Edition is a news magazine and not a comedy. Also, I have always wondered why Inside Edition in most markets airs at 7 or 7:30PM or at some point in the evenings on one of the big three network affiliates following the network evening newscast, but in NYC, it airs on WNYW at 11:30 AM and I'm pretty sure it's a repeat from the previous evening! I've always thought Inside Edition could be on a better affiliate at a better time in NYC. RGSJenkins 435
Inside Edition currently airs at 11:30am on FOX 5, on cable 5:30 on RNN, and at 11:35 on WLNY. I think Inside Edition at 6:30 on WPIX is a good idea. Vlad 325
Insightful I think the same can be said for most of your posts too. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5679-lead-ins-for-wpixs-630pm-newscast/#findComment-53275 Share on other sites
kjohnson 17
You guys think that Inside Edition is on enough stations in NYC? Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5679-lead-ins-for-wpixs-630pm-newscast/#findComment-53294 Share on other sites
DMA 135
WRNN and WLNY aren't available OTA in NYC proper, I guess you could consider them as being in defacto submarkets. I don't think it's a great lead-in, but it could be worse. mbhcity 3
It makes more sense than airing Friends as a 6:30 leadin like KTLA does. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/5679-lead-ins-for-wpixs-630pm-newscast/#findComment-53304 Share on other sites
TrfRptr 3
As far as "best available" lead-ins, I'd say Inside Edition is a good fit. Since WPIX (and a few others) lean heavy on fluff news it may cater to their audience. But, if they are going for hard, serious news at 6:30 this still fits their audience. Of course, a judge show would probably be good too, and their are no shortages of those. If they were smart, with the economy being how it is and since WPIX is technically an independent, they should shop around for a syndicated financial show, produced by an independent agency. Problem is when things recover, then what? It will be interesting to see how WPIX goes at 6:30...if they really try and taking the network evening newscasts head on or they try something different. Link 3
I think it is a good idea for a station to do a 6:30-7:00pm local newscast since all three network affiliates have the network newscasts at 6:30. I liked it several years ago when the 6pm local newscasts were an hour long with network news at 7pm. NewsJunkie247 1
Some still do. Such as KDKA in Pittsburgh, PA and WRGB in Albany, NY - both CBS affiliates.
