qwertnyc 1
According to broadcastingcable.com... http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/447357-WNBC_Adds_A_M_Half_Hour.php WNBC New York will start its Today in New York program a half-hour earlier starting March 1, when it will kick off at 4:30 a.m. "The extended half hour will focus primarily on the day's top headlines, weather and traffic, giving viewers an even earlier jump start on their day," WNBC said in a statement. The program will air 4:30 to 7 a.m. and features the talent crew of Michael Gargiulo, Darlene Rodriguez, Chris Cimino and Megan Meany. "We know that viewers are waking up earlier, and we want to be there with the latest local news and information to help them start their day," said WNBC VP of News Susan Sullivan. "Expanding Today in NY to 4:30 allows us to respond to the changing dynamics of our audience and ensure we remain their source for local morning news." Why didn't they have this mindset when the idea of "LX New York" at 5PM came to mind? I can probably bet now that with News 4 New York starting their newcasts earlier and with WPIX already starting their morning news at 4:30, WCBS, WNYW, and WABC will most likely follow in the near future. Vlad 325
Many stations in LA do this as well. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/6188-news-4-ny-430-am/#findComment-57147 Share on other sites
NYNews 54
I'm guessing they see that WPIX is generating ratings and that there is an audience at 4:30am that perhaps is giving them a better lead-in to 5am. Perhaps after the Olympics, WNBC will finally come back to senses and bring back news at 5pm. fan of la tv 47
In LA, KABC and KTLA have newscasts that start at 4:30 am. Shortly after KTLA started a 4:30 am newscast, KNBC started a local 4am newscast and then had the National Early Today at 4:30am and then back to local at 5am. Although, according to the guide it now has Early Today at 4am and the local show at 4:30am. Maybe noone was watching at 4 and they switched it to 4:30. Weeters 1916
WITI just started this a few weeks ago. Because, you know, we totally need an extra half-hour of American Idol talk. gameshowguy2000 1
I thought early morning newscasts usually start around 4:30AM if they have to do extended inclement weather coverage (and this being winter right now, many stations are doing just that). It does make alot of sense for Milwaukee to have a 4:30AM newscast.. There's alot of people in the Milwaukee market that get up very early that work in/around the Chicago area.. NewsJunkie247 1
Yes So now, will stations that have newscasts starting at 5AM in the eastern time zone air "Early Today" live from 4-4:30AM or will they air it on a tape-delay at 4:30? It is not an issue for the other NBC affiliates in the midwest or on the west coast where obviously the program doesn't air live, but I'm not sure what NBC affiliates on the east coast will do. That's all they do in St. Louis. No word about starting at 4:30am. Looks like the 4:30am is strictly for weather-related reasons. NewsJunkie247 1
Today was the first day of the new start time and as you can see in this video from NYNewsWATCH it was a little bit of a different format for the beginning of the show: I really like the close-up angle of Darlene in front of the big monitor. starman 0
You're right. That is a great close up shot with the moving background in the monitor. Also, kind of like the glass desk. ColumbusNewsFan 217
I have been noticing this trend lately with NBC and It does include WCMH, My Hometown NBC, of moving up the morning news cast to 4:30am. I guess it a push by NBC to go early with the local news. . Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/6188-news-4-ny-430-am/#findComment-57908 Share on other sites

Well, if they are going to start that early, could they at least be bothered not to rehash the news from 10pm the night before? If you're "where the news comes first" you don't want to give away the fact that your newsroom is a ghost town after the late news.
