The court rules out FCC's indecency rules. We could be hearing the the words F*** and S#!T on TV UNCENSORED. They say it is a violation of our First Amendment: The right to free speech. Sigh. (This was just in an appeals court, and isn't set in stone quite yet.)

Networks aren't going to all of sudden air George Carlin's "Seven Words You Cannot Say on Television" - stations have been policing themselves for years for the benefit of the more conservative viewer (and so they don't get complaints).

If this does have any impact on the FCC's way of running things (this only pertained to certain events in the early 2000s and hasn't changed a thing, though it's expected that this could get the wheels turning), don't expect massive amounts of 'cursing' on the airwaves. This means if an unruly guest and/or Jane Fonda is on a talk show, and they drop an 'inappropriate word', there would be no law that says they can be fined by the FCC.

I'm happy the the rules are being looked at. Every other progressive western society isn't prudish enough to outright ban profanity. They just have a reasonable cutoff point-after 9 or 10pm, anything goes on television. It's about time we follow suit.
