Bucc 4 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Most sat nights WNYT/Newschannel 13 goes to break at 11:28, and the anchor says something like "we'll be back with one last check of the forecast" Except because SNL starts at 11:29 they never come back to the news. Tonight it happened again and they aired that local commercial block and went to SNL at like 11:30. This is like the 2nd time I've seen it happen. I just find it odd. Any other NBC channels have this error?
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Do they flash on the screen for their last block waving? Or do they never come back?

mre29 1563 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Wait... SNL starts at 11:29? And the affiliates let NBC get away with this?
Weeters 1969 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Wait... SNL starts at 11:29? And the affiliates let NBC get away with this? It's all part of the deal, and tradition too. Besides, the network gives the locals an extra 25 minutes of time total during the week since late night starts at 11:35.
bostonmediaguy 124 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Wait... SNL starts at 11:29? And the affiliates let NBC get away with this? ...and ends at 1:03 AM. ::gasp!::
ProButtonPusher 230 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Actually, it starts at 11:29:30 (ET). The Tonight Show starts at 11:34:30 (ET)...Its been like this for so long, affiliates really could care less.
Bucc 4 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Wait... SNL starts at 11:29? And the affiliates let NBC get away with this? yea why do they care it's a sat night. less crap the have to fill their lame weekend newscast with ;-)
C Block 1566 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I haven't watched NBC late night programming in quite some time, but the last time I checked, KUSA in Denver start the Tonight Show and SNL at 10:37.
kjohnson 17 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 KSDK used to start SNL at 10:35, but in recent months has started the show at 10:30. Never could seem to get the HD playback to work right (frequent drops, and visual artifacts). Also, since KSDK doesn't do a lot of coverage during the weekend, there was no point in having the news on for another 5 minutes.
ctmajka 115 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 WMAQ starts SNL at 10:37 as well...That's really weird.
NewEnglandNewsInsider 0 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 WHDH goes straight till 11:30 but just as a close (only day they do it). WJAR ends a few minutes earlier about 11:32.
NewsJunkie247 1 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I'm kind of surprised that quite a few NBC affiliates delay the beginning of SNL. You would think that, even in large cities, there would not be as much news on a Saturday than there would be during the week.
DMA 135 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 It's not a matter of more news, it's a matter of fitting in more ads.

NewEnglandNewsInsider 0 Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 WHDH does not delay the start of SNL. Never said they did, they close right as the show starts.
TVNewsLover 787 Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 Never said they did, they close right as the show starts. You didn't say it exactly in those words, but what you did say inderectly implies that they delay the start. You did say they end at 11:35. SNL starts at 11:30. So therefore, any station beginning at 11:35 is delaying it for five minutes.
