It takes a lot of guts to go through an operation like that because it changes the person's life permanently. I read about the aftermaths of Gastric Bypasses they can be awfully troubling and extremely difficult for one to deal with and through. Good luck to him. A lap band (or belly band) is not a permanent operation - it can be easily adjusted and removed. A bypass is permanent and much more drastic a procedure. There's also a greater, more sudden weight loss with a bypass, and less of a possibility for relapse (or weight gain), whereas with lap band, once the band is removed, regaining of weight is more likely.
