Editor Sues WABC, Accuses Reporters of Racial Abuse

Gerardo Lago, a longtime WABC editor and photographer, has filed an $18 million lawsuit against ABC and Disney, alleging that he suffered repeated verbal abuse from staffers at the station.

According to Reuters, Lago is accusing three WABC reporters – Lauren Glassberg, Kemberly Richardson, and Stacey Sager – of making “abusive, offensive and demeaning” comments towards him based on his hispanic heritage.

In the lawsuit, Lago details incidents in which the reporters yelled profanities at him during shoots and were overly critical of his editing. On one incident:

Lago was the cameraman for Glassberg’s “Neighborhood Eats” segment. On many occasions she told people being taped to excuse Lago “as he does not speak English,” the lawsuit said.

Rosemarie Arnold, Lago’s lawyer, said her client has a slight accent, but speaks “perfect English.”

Lago worked at WABC for over two decades before being put on medical leave last October, according to Reuters. After he refused to undergo an independent, psychological examination, the station suspended Lago without pay on February 3rd.

OK, so what's this REALLY about??

Honestly, Gerry Lago has been around since before me... but the last year or so he just started acting realllly bizarre. We all kinda thought he was abusing drugs or something. Obviously, no proof by any means, but his behavior just kept getting more and more strange.

The company put him out on paid leave to get his life in order, whatever was wrong - but when he didn't visit any of the doctors he had to in order to return to work after the 6-month paid leave was over, he was terminated.

The lawsuit is just his way of trying to get back at the company for the termination. The accusations are entirely, 100% false.

The sad part is that the company will probably settle with him.

I've seen this WAY TOO MANY times a couple companies I've worked for. After seeing hundreds of outcomes, it's really better that the company settles.. Because if this makes it to trial, knowing how most judges are nowadays with their "agendas", the company will be ordered to pay something WAY out the roof.. It's really better business-wise to settle. On the occasions I've seen that went to court, even with all the proof in the world the person is lying or just doing this for money, the judge still awards the person because many judges now that deal in theses cases have anti-business, anti-big business, or pro-minority agendas clouding their job to make a fair judgement.

A $300,000-$500,000 or even $1,000,000 settlement is alot better than a $2-$3 million+ award ordered by the judge.
