bmasters1 403
This “NFL Today” opening is from the 1988 NFC final between S.F. and Chicago, 1/8/89. Watch for a treat towards the end-- after the opening, the chopper people, as they are trying to get a beauty shot of the Chicago skyline, are out of position over Lake Michigan, and frantically have to attempt to get back into position as the “NFL Today” title moves into position at the top of the screen for Don Robertson’s billboard; the chopper’s attempt to assume the correct position for the skyline shot would only make the audience kind of dizzy. Fortunately, the skyline shot problem is rectified by the time that Don introduces Brent “live from Soldier Field in Chicago.” At this time, the studio show still had the long-established Brent Musburger and Irv Cross, but Phyllis George was long gone, and Jimmy “The Greek” was fired in the 1987-88 season, I believe. Instead, in their places were the late Will McDonough and Chicago Bears great Dick Butkus. Look for their portions of the opening; you’ll notice Will and Dick by the fact that the lettering used for their names had virtually no depth to it. Dick’s intro, although lacking depth in the lettering, was similar to that of Jimmy “The Greek.” This would be the last time that CBS would use its “computer robot” opening for “The NFL Today,” as NBC broadcast SB XXIII 1/22/89, two weeks later. Next season (1989-90), CBS would adopt the short-lived opening that was previously posted here. At the time of this broadcast from Chicago, it was only 10° outside, with a wind-chill factor of -33°. The winds were blowing pretty hard too. You are right about the weather for this NFC final-- it had warmed up a little, although it was still very cold. bmasters1 403
This is a Prudential "At The Half" segment from a CBS NBA game between the L.A. Lakers and Philly, 2/22/87. Take a close look at the opening-- the graphics remind me of the billboard that Don Robertson delivered for "The Prudential College Football Report" when Jim Nantz presented it (with the golden frame quickly snapping into place and the CBS Sports horizontal logo in the middle of that frame); only this time, Pat O'Brien is the presenter, the name of the segment is changed to "At the Half," and the CBS NBA music is used for the opening. When this opening was used for the "College Football Report" in 1985, it had this scary-sounding music that seemed to have been a derivative of the College Football theme at that time. It was, however, modified for the 1987 season to use a short cut of the current CBS College Football theme, I believe. p988 0
I tried posting some of my stuff from WWL, WDSU and WYES on Youtube but I couldn't post it because the files were too large. It's not much, but it is from the late 80s, about 1987-88. All of these were leftovers from some tapes I had of "Doctor Who" taped off WYES. They include: A WWL 4 pm newsbreak with Bill Elder Ending of a Doctor Who episode with "Nature" promo and WYES sign-off from 1988 Commercial breaks with WDSU 10 pm news teases, and a short open If anyone knows how I can reduce the file size without losing some of the key parts of the material, please let me know. It would be great to see more New Orleans material on Youtube, there simply isn't enough of it. If you tried saving it as, say, a MPEG file; there would be no way to successfully upload it. Also, I'm curious as to how long the clips are. I believe YT has only a 10 minute cap per upload unless you're registered as a YT director or something, so there may not be a way to get it up without trimming some stuff. p988 0
That's the problem right there. I had saved them as MPEG files. None of the clips run at or over 10 minutes, I would say they are less than 3 minutes long. I still have them somewhere on my computer. What format should I save them as?
