  1. In that case, WEAR pre-empting that for their own annual trainwreck of the Pelican drop may have been a blessing in disguise. The usual miscues and technical gremlins were exasperated by the rain. One of their poor reporters looked like they were teetering over the edge about to be blown off a balcony in Destin covering their own celebration..of sorts. It's never been the same since Dick Clark passed away. These shows and the celebrities that perform on them just get worse and worse, and I just tune in the last 3 minutes or so to see the ball or whatever thing drops or counts down to Midnight.

  2. Siafa and Shinelle had no chemistry given they have never worked together and likely met a few hrs. before the broadcast. It seems like they picked these two out of thin air and said this can work. I'm surprised they didn't just pay someone from Chicago Fire, PD, Med or Justice to host and be done with it. Maybe next year. I agree the musical acts were very, very weak and without question, no thought was put into this. You have a freaking year to prepare and this is the best you can do? Shameful.

  3. Maybe this is a superficial comparison...but the KNOE 1998 theme almost sounds Arnold-like. Reminds me of the WCSC custom theme...

  4. GAH!!!!!! I LOVE THIS! Excuse the caps. So much of my childhood is captured in this. Also, in almost 30 years, while more buildings have dotted the Downtown skyline as the open winded around the Coronado Bridge.. it honestly hasn't changed much.

  5. No open here, but WJTC? In 1985? With a newscast? I had to share this. There's also some WEAR in here. The topic: the closure of a local radio station. And if you like Rockford, check out WIFR in 1998: If neither of those float your boat...WSAZ promos from the end of the 70s with Part of Your Life! Or KFMB in 1989? (Featuring a full close of the Silvertree theme and an editorial!) Or WOWL from the same year?

  6. No, at one point after midnight she donned a beekeeper-like suit to ward off his advances, and then they settled for a friendly kiss and a selfie. As for the ratings, ABC 7 and NBC 5's combined ratings were down from last year, but initial curiosity last year wasn't enough for "Chi-Town Rising" to stay on top, with "Countdown Chicago" returning to first place. WLS scored a 12.7 (31 share) at the stroke of midnight to WMAQ's 9.7 (25 share). ABC 7 was also on top for the total broadcast, doubling NBC 5's 6.0 with a 12.1, and also claiming victory in the demos. Feder: http://www.robertfeder.com/2017/01/01/abc-7-rings-new-year-back-top/
