  1. Sucks, Megyn Kelly is destined to fail. She cannot compete with Live w/ Kelly. Her FOX viewers aren't going to watch, and NBC viewers will be turned away.

  3. Of course, I don't see anything wrong with connecting to viewers through social media, but I agree, and I still think this is a very thin line that they're walking due to the nature of the stories that this is being done with. They're better off doing this for things that don't involve murders or serious crimes or anything, save it for goofier stories or entertainment news.

  5. Especially since she went from Hearst to Sinclair. WTF? I rather wait for an opportunity with another station's group owner than Sinclair or Nexstar. Those two companies sound just horrible to work for.

  6. To me the bigger question is why does WJLA (and others) need three anchors in the morning? Two is sufficient.

  7. Today marks the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Tennessee Aquarium... Note the music bed, the (very good) WDEF "Looking Out for the Tennessee Valley" theme debuted c. 1990!

  8. I think this was missed and not talked about here but it looks like KWTV 9 in Oklahoma City has rebranded its sister Ind. station KSBI 52 to... you guessed it... News 9 Plus. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KSBI This took place two months ago and DESPITE that rebranding, KSBI 52 continues to only air KWTV 9's weekday half-hour noon newscast.

  9. Jummy was more of a "Breaking News/Live Desk" anchor instead of sitting at the desk with main anchors Lenny & Autria taking turns reading headlines in a "three-anchor format". However yes Eat, Jummy would fill-in anchor when one of the main anchors is away. Speaking of two meteorologists, WJLA uses two for GMW. It isn't like they use two simultaneously like some stations have (like WKBW & at one point WEWS). Eileen Whelan anchors the 4:30-7am show on 7, while Veronica Johnson does the 7-10am portion on NewsChannel 8. Johnson also weather anchors a separate 6-7am show on NC8 entitled "GMW Express". I don't think you need to have two weather anchors on the same show at the same time (especially if both are in the studio, and there's no severe weather event). That bothered me when I saw two weather anchors on WEWS's morning show, and I was like why? Just a waste.

  10. Yeah some of them are better described as companies though and not independents. I created a new thread in Speculatron about the future of the independent stations (I mean by that those which are locally/separately owned, and not stations without an affiliation). Somehow I think Gray will get quite a few of them, as they fit their portfolio and are missing in those markets...

  11. As far as still owned by the original family signing it on and owning it... Add: KSTP (Hubbard) WBNS (Wolfe) KOBI/KOTI (Smullin) WISC (Murphy [burns]) *KRGV (I think it's been owned by the Manships the entire time) You can also count WGEM, but Quincy, to me, has expanded a bit beyond the point of a mom-and-pop operator despite being a family company. Same goes for original Cox/Hearst stations. And, although, not since "Day 1"...WCAX has been owned by the Martin family for all but the first four years of its existence.

  12. NBC ran an ad campaign last week and this weekend stating that Hoda is now a permanent and regular member of the 7-9am show. Hoda's stock seems to be continuously rising.

  15. I wouldn't tar all Sinclair stations with the same brush, but one of the micro-managed stations is a bad thing for sure. They don't interfere as much with their smaller stations but those aren't exactly places you'd expect someone experienced to run to anyway. If she was at WGNO, that would have been a big promotion...
