  1. Was KXAS the first station to use those graphics? Or WSOC?

  2. 6 News, a local cable news operation in Lawrence, KS, will be shutting down its operations after 45 years. Minnesota cable company Midco is expanding their Midco Sports Network into the market and ending 6 News. Lawrence is technically in the Topeka DMA but receives signals from both Topeka and Kansas City, so both markets cover them equally. A very sad day indeed. https://www.6lawrence.com/6lawrence/index.php/2017/05/16/midco-sn-expands-lawrence-6-news-operations-end/

  3. Jeez, is Andy Lack intent on taking MSNBC to a new part of the political spectrum? Is Rachel Maddow not critical of Trump to him? Being critical of Trump isn't even a fire-able offense on Fox News (Shepard Smith would have been gone months ago if that was the case). It doesn't make any sense given that their progressive programming has been bringing in more ratings.

  4. TVQ Eyewitness News Brisbane 1982 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niTIxrKvxBY Eyewitness Newsbreak w/Kay McGrath (now Ch 7 veteran) As stated by uploader Australian TV Fan, the open featured the "Eyewitness News" helicopter, speedboat and even a 4WD.

  5. David used to take off at noon to fill in for Chuck at 11. Stefan is likely being groomed to replace Chuck when he retires.

  6. Lawrence is in the Kansas City DMA, even though it's slightly closer to Topeka. When I was a kid, the K.C. stations were crystal clear over the air, and the Topeka stations were not (broadcast pattern favored towns west/north of Topeka). That's too bad, though. "6 News" was a recorded newscast for many years. Their first live broadcast was the 1988 K.U. National Championship parade.

  7. [https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...34b6d506b37_story.html?utm_term=.48d92ad94456] I know I shouldn't, but more than ever I'm more convinced that Sinclair has a plot to take over most of TV to turn it into state TV-lite. And more than ever, I'm cringing at it's success. I feel sorry for everyone at the Trib stations, TheRob most definitely included.

  8. Interesting and unexpected! Maybe they had offers from bigger companies but want to keep things relatively localized.

  9. The Brewers do a lot to help stations plan for their opening day coverage too; every single year since Miller Park opened (even the first year) they were all over the place making all the TV and radio people comfortable and set in wherever they're positioned and coordinating things (alumni appearances, sausage racers, 5am lighting of the field, scoreboard playouts). Most teams do the same in their markets, and I'm sure the Braves were doing the same since the ballpark opening needed to be perfect, especially when the Cobb County funding controversy and I-85 issues are still in the news. These two Norma Desmonds definitely overthought about everything involving their liveshot and maybe could have just had the ND send off an email to the Braves with a few questions. For the most part, Opening Day should definitely be ad-libbed for most of the time and it shouldn't be as canned as these anchors think it should be.
