  3. He seems personally offended for some reason. I maintain that he's so upset because he doesn't want the image of one of his reporters nearly getting killed on live TV out there on the internet. That, or he's upset that FTVLive kind of implied that Lewis knowingly sent his reporter in close to a very dangerous situation without thinking much of her safety.

  5. Yes. They're seamless interlocking panels covered in hundreds of small LED diodes. In the past couple years, the technology has advanced dramatically on these screens, allowing the pixels to be closer together (pixel pitch) and smaller, all while the costs have come down like crazy. They are arguably more reliable than LCD monitor walls and provide better contrast and a brighter, more color accurate, and even picture. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1354512-REG This is a Samsung branded panel with 1.5mm pixel pitch, meaning there is 1.5mm between pixels. Not sure what brand they're using (NBC has jumped all over in regards to who they're buying their LED walls from) but the technology is at least similar.

  7. It's all motion controlled cameras and backlit artwork. To quote a gentleman who worked at Robert Abel & Associates (who produced those graphics ): "Artwork was set up on a gimballed backlit fluorescent light box, and the camera was on a motorized dolly on a track. The effects were built up in camera with multiple frame-by-frame exposures. Everything was driven by stepper motors and Abel's own custom motion control systems." Absolutely one of my favorite techniques, and one that's far, far more difficult to reproduce accurately on a computer, despite the "simplicity" compared to the later Paintbox-driven eras.

  8. I see that Herb Dudnick was the executive producer; he went on to create and produce the legendary NBC News Overnight and later served as KRON's news director and a producer of World News Tonight.

  9. The early beginnings of two popular cable channels; first, Daytime: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-PmHnQn8kg Of course, Daytime would merge with Cable Health Network in 1984, and Lifetime was born. Hearst/ABC also brought us ARTS (Alpha Repretory Television Service), which once upon a time shared channel space with Nickelodeon: (no need to explain A&E’s history even further)

  12. I know networks can request stations uplink footage or perhaps cover a press conference. But can they request them to deploy their helicopter or drone for coverage? I assume they’d be reimbursed. I’m thinking of situations such as holiday weekend travel. Say your news helicopter is only up in the morning until 7AM but your in one of the areas where there are backups and the network wants live footage through out their show - maybe until 8AM. Is that reimbursable.

  13. Just wanted to make sure it stays true to how it was presented back in the day. Too many channels don't take care of the videos well.

  16. Interestingly, the CBS agreement only covers WTVF. Does KMTV (Omaha) have a separate agreement?

  21. According to the Miami Herald, WFOR main anchor Rick Folbaum may leave soon. That would be another departure at CBS 4 following the recent one by morning anchor Eugene Ramirez. With Rick leaving, the station will have only one male anchor Elliott Rodriguez and so many anchor positions to fill. http://www.miamiherald.com/entertainment/ent-columns-blogs/jose-lambiet/article210860409.html
