  1. Phoenix-area coverage of Decision '96: Election Night. It starts with KPNX/NBC, but we eventually get to see the other stations. There's not much KNXV, which has gone toward its tabloid appearance. KSAZ has instituted the Fox 10 name and the "Fox News 10" logo (that was soon revised). KTVK has an Arizona Lottery drawing at 1:56:40. Jim Howl struggles to read "Consejo Latino de Salud" — he would leave within a couple of years. KPHO is in its mid-late 90s newsroom set. At 2:12:33 is a promo for Arizona 5 News at 5 and 6, read by Scott Chapin. And here's a KNTV newscast from 1992:

  3. WCMH visits a competitor (?) in 1993. Public access TV. Interesting look at WCMH after a late 1992 revamp: Ah, the promise of Public Access TV in the '90s!

  5. Considering that's for patrons, how do you know that's WTXF? It could've been for KYW.

  8. They did that in 1991 (it aired at 7:30 though) and it didn't last a year. While it might be more expensive, a WRC product might just do better, too.

  10. Apparently so since WWL and now KUTV are affected.

  11. At least KUTV, KOTV, and WWL have duopoly partners to continue a post-7am newscast. What about WFMY? AFAIK, they still run The Good Morning Show until 8am and WFMY has no duopoly partner to move the 7am hour.

  13. Ugh, they went with the italic font from their bowl game coverage. And it totally clashes with the font used for the down, distance, quarter, and time.

  14. I've been on a Showtime kick lately, and I want to introduce you guys to some of their underrated promos and intros. First, a short promo that kicked off the "Excitement" campaign (based around the Pointer Sisters' "I'm So Excited") in 1984, which is when Showtime really began evolving their on-air look: Then their Exclusive Movie intro of the period, and the ratings bumper which really gives you the chills: Jumping forward a few years, straight from one of the people who worked on it, one of the Pittard Sullivan-era intros, which were very visually attractive, if overloaded with elements: From 1995, one of their "Start Time" intros, part of one of the most minimal, yet attractive looks on premium cable (the current Starz look is very lazy in comparison) And to wrap things up, a set of quirky intros from the late 90s-- one for Showtime (then having just entered the "No Limits" era), two for TMC:

  15. It's 48 minutes of WTVX commercials from 1989...including several news breaks presented by Curt Fonger and Evelyn Cole. By this time, the station was already an independent. Interestingly, the first one uses newer and more elaborate L3s than most of the others.
