  1. Still no bio on the website but I did notice for a fact that the Weekend Sports Reporter job posting has been gone for a while.

  2. If you flipped the story around where Sinclair was doing this stuff to favor Democrat candidates and opinion within the local newscast produced by their stations, and hired Jon Favreau** to give mandatory nightly commentaries with no chance for a reply, there would be justifiable public indignation from Fox, Breitbart, et al, just like liberal groups and organizations are indignant at Sinclair right now. It’s inherently wrong and dishonest, regardless of the POV. **Nothing against Favreau, he’s the closest equivalent to Boris Epysteyn I could think of at the moment.

  3. Here's the tail-end of ABC's 1978 primetime election coverage, anchored by Frank Reynolds, followed by Fahey Flynn, Joel Daly, and the beginning of Eyewitness News at 10. Note the mention of the election of a new Arkansas governor, some young kid named Clinton. No word on what became of him. (WLS, 11/7/1980)

  5. They knew what they were hiring when they hired him. The Mark Mathis job history was no deep secret at KUSI. Did you know former KUSI reporter Rod Luck was married to the HR director of KUSI? Rod Luck was fired by his ex- wife from KUSI when Rod was accused of domestic violence a few years back. The point is... KUSI hires all kinds of wild and crazy people. That's why KUSI is so much fun to watch.

  6. Dean left without taking all the 'Jessica'-labeled station swag, so this hire is very economical.

  7. LOL. 4th place news org in the city hires another anchor that probably won't last that long here either cause the station's management can't get out of its own way? Not even close. I will give them credit for going to a respectable operation to find her though. They should also look at WJZ to figure out how to put out a decent news product.

  9. KUSI is basically what would have happened if Weird Al’s “U62” existed in the present day. A scrappy locally-owned indie with nothing to lose, headed by... eccentric... personalities all larger than life. Mark Malthus’ style fits KUSI perfectly and he has a loyal following; that’s why he was there and will likely remain after this. Are they the market leader? Hardly, but their newscasts have a loyal, devoted following and cable carriage helps a lot.

  10. At last... a full WJBK 1979 open, without control room audio! And here’s a taste of Albuquerque: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2-xfznVdNQ

  11. That would be me who commented. Compare the melody in the KATU theme with this ident's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=aTa3-a5YTRE;t=20 They're a dead-on match to my ears. I have a weird sense it might be DeWolfe...?

  13. Today marks 50 years of Eyewitness News. WABC-TV has posted the following #tbt video to show how Channel 7 brought the news to New York City back in 1968.

  16. Double post, but I already found it thanks to a tip on the Channel video I'd overlooked. It appears to be a KPM track, Superstar Fanfare (or just Superstar depending on the version). Oddly enough, while the logo sounds right, I couldn't seem to find the version KATU seems to have used. I did, however, find one that ...

  17. I think management at any station see the entertainment value he brings to the table. He's like the current President. He's a train wreck to watch, but the ratings are solid. That my take.

  18. Quoted for emphasis. WJZ is a good CBS operation. Maybe KYW can replace some of the management with WJZ staffers; because the KCCO experiment in Philly isn’t working. KYW may wanna add to their male anchor bench. Or at least not have Ukee and Jessica anchor 5,6,10,11pm shows. The station is a mess, why is CBS allowing its station in the 4th largest market to be such a non competitive entity???

  19. lmao Stealing what thunder? A new anchor can't beat a new set (going on what goes on here). Congrats to Jessica K. on the market upgrade, and to KYW for this great pickup.

  20. Someone commented on my KATU news open video and said the news theme shown here was also used on Channel in the UK back in the 1970s. I sense this is production music.
