  2. Don't forget WJZ in Baltimore. They just got a new set after 20 years. Many of their staff retired and the young ones have moved on to other markets.

  4. Ken Watts went to WAGA afterwards, which itself launched a 5pm newscast in January 1988... with ANOTHER new open set? AND Ernie Anderson NOT on an ABC station?!!!!!

  5. That is true, but also how long was Kiernan steering the ship? Almost 10 years. As of Jeff Harris, I may be the only one but I am liking their newscasts. Especially not being afraid of leading the 10PM News with Investigations. It is a different product and I hope that Chicagoans do take notice of that fact. Just with Dave Savini's investigation of Sterogenics and the subsequent passing of Matt Heller and his last interview on CBS 2, that was great journalism. However, I would love to see Mai and Jim together again and a better morning news team. It was a mistake to have let Roseanne go. The 5,6 & 10pm should've been hers.

  6. What CBS really needs to do (but won't) is leave them the heck alone. At some point, you have to give your local people the opportunity and support needed to right the ship. Plus, they need a GM who is willing to be both an advocate (push back at corporate when necessary) and visionary (put together the right set of newsroom managers (ND, EPs, etc..). No need to reinvent the wheel here, but really have an open and honest 'self-reflection' to address where the problems lie.

  7. At this point CBS just need to be content with their ratings. Still can’t believe this is the 13th anchor change in 20 years. CBS O&O stations in general are having this problem of low ratings and turnovers with the exception of WCCO and KDKA (I believe). Sidenote: Brad Edwards looks more like a weatherman with that salt and pepper hair ..ie Dallas Raines.

  8. Irika just opened the newscast solo and said, "Rob...err...Brad is off tonight." Old habits die hard.

  10. One more from my small collection of early 2000s news footage taped off cable on S-VHS...WCMH 5pm show the Monday after the OSU-Michigan riots in 2002 (November 25, to be exact).

  11. For much of the 70's, KAIL only broadcast about 4-5 hours a day, it was mostly public affairs and religious shows. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a brief period after that where the station went dark and then came back under new owners and with a stronger signal and schedule.

  12. They DID give them a fresh new look almost three years ago and boy, do they need it (I live in the Richmond area, BTW). WRIC's current set - that was built by FX Design Group - has been around since 2016, debuted a new logo, dropped 615 Music's "Battery V.4" (aka "Always Worth Your Time") for Stephen Arnold's "Guardian" package and replaced the old Young graphics with the KOIN6 graphics. WRIC's set took top honors in NewscastStudio.com's 2016 Set of the Year - Fan Vote, and it was head-to-head against the set of - wait for it - VH1's "Martha & Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party". Not kidding. Fast forward to late last year (Nexstar era), WRIC has a new branding - "ABC 8", dropping the longtime brand of "TV-8" - and just a few months ago, WRIC has a new voiceover: Paul Turner.
