  1. Dan was a great reporter down here. Glad he is going to target bigger fish in NYC. Also I really miss Paul deanno when he was at wtvj.

  3. I did. It's pretty much the main show's second hour now extended to a sixth day, minus the studio audience and twice the fluff.

  4. Yeah! And let's bring back those casting couches... But this time put those neato plastic covers on them like at my Grandmas house, so nobody gets V.D.

  5. This is certainly one of the stranger pieces of KPNX ephemera out there... (It's from 1994, not 1989, but you probably could tell anyway.)

  7. Sign-offs & Sign-ons still occur. I managed to snag this during a recent trip to Abilene, TX. It is the first video I've uploaded as part of my second YouTube channel - TV Travels Archive. I'm looking to bring back the promos & newscasts from around the country that I had on the old HoustonTVNews channel, seperate from the Houston TV History channel I've got up and running. 8. A rerun of a later CBS episode of Captain Kangaroo which originally aired Christams Eve 1983, it begins with a KTSP sign on:

  9. If memory serves me right, that's a young Gary Apple, now of SNY. Wyland came to WNYT right as Apple left for KMOV right after Viacom took that station over from CBS.

  10. By the mentions of the miniseries "Peter the Great", this dates to early February 1986 (2nd-5th). That set only had some more months left as it was replaced by the fall by the set that lasted until 1995. It was later that year when things really started to pick up steam, partially aided by some bad moves on WTEN's behalf that drove viewers up three channels.

  11. A WNYT montage from 1986 revealing more of their set from the 1980s. This was the time period when Ed Dague solo-anchored the news and the station was in its stages trying to beat ratings king WRGB.

  12. Russ Offenbach, the voice of WFLA-TV and Winn-Dixie was also the voice of the Disney World monorail.

  13. Intro and excerpt of WCVB's locally-produced show Night Shift in 1988, hosted by Yakov Caplan. The program showcased animation and short films created by filmmakers from around the region. It's sad to know that programs like this one aren't produced anymore.

  14. A WNYT commercial block from 1992 - incorporating their then 5-month old News Channel 13 name in all the bumpers like they do now.

  15. Yesterday, WTEN’s Elisa Streeter bid farewell after 30 years anchoring news. I got her retirement video on camera last night, as I had trouble accessing their livestream.

  16. A Today show segment featuring former WNYT weatherman Howard Altschule, with a WNYT weather bug clipped to the side of the screen to show closings & delays. The L3’s shown here were terribly ripped off at WNYT itself.

  17. It's in B&W (it came from the Vandy archives), but nonetheless, here is a great edition of NBC Nightly News from February 22, 1979, which features a young Chris Wallace (with a moustache!) on the HOR begining televised sessions, and a final story on the election of future MST3K producer Jim Mallon to the Uniersity of Wisconsin student government!

  18. WNBC-TV wraps up it's broadcast day for late Friday August 31, 1979 with a slides only report of news read by Bill Rippey, an Editorial Reply, a Sermonette on life, lots of PSAs, and Arthur Gary with the sign-off message. A great clip!

  19. Fun fact regarding the Time Warner Cable News launch in San Antonio...this is the second time that TWC has attempted to launch a news channel in the market. In 2003, TWC launched "News 9 San Antonio" for their cable viewers; unlike its Austin partner, which would eventually last through the YNN years and is still here today, the San Antonio channel was a flop and folded by 2004. It is interesting to see that TWCN Austin will handle most of the content to start before a gradual move to an entirely local operation. Maybe TWC wants to reduce startup costs and potential risk, as the Comcast merger is looming over their heads and Comcast has made no indication about whether TWCN will continue if the merger is approved. Whether TWCN will continue post-merger would make for "interesting" speculation.

  20. In memory of David Horowitz, who died earlier this week at age 81: Here’s a full episode of his show “Fight Back!” from 1992 (near the end of its run); it started as a local show called “California Buyline” on KNBC in 1976 and then “Consumer Buyline” before going national in 1980.

  21. Speaking of Elisa's former employer, legendary WJW meteorologist Dick Goddard - after assisting in expanded severe weather coverage Monday night - had to be rescued from his car after the interstate off-ramp he was on became completely overwhelmed with rainwater. He was trapped in his submerged car for close to 45 minutes and started to suffer from hypothermia. Mind you, Dick is 83 years old.
