  1. Here's something interesting and fun to watch. The full-length episode of CBS News Up to the Minute. No, not the overnight newscast that came (a) after CBS News Nightwatch and (b) before CBS Overnight News. Not the Up to the Minute you're thinking of. This was the 1981 SHOW, Monday thru Friday afternoons, where it was hosted by the same men who brought us 60 Minutes (Mike Wallace, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer and Harry Reasoner). It was a weekday afternoon news program - an early fringe deal - that came on after the CBS soaps and before the early news at like 5:00pm. PLUS, there's theme music to the show. Seeing that Up to the Minute was hosted by the 60 Minutes anchormen, the music was MUCH different from the stopwatch sound effect we're used to hearing on 60 Minutes every Sunday.

  2. Excellent find! This is fascinating to watch. The show only lasted two months and there's barely any information on the program anywhere. Captain Kangaroo delivering hard news commentary is wild.

  3. From KTRK circa 1989 - a spot introducing Joe Diaz as the primary weather forecaster for the station during Ed Brandon's time away from the station.

  4. As currently constructed, WNT doesn't need much to go to air. Muir hasn't appeared standing up in that studio for the better part of a decade, and wears jeans most nights. Jennings & Gibson moved around the studio more than David. Like local newscasters around the country, a modern, spacious studio might force him to put on nice pants.

  5. BTM0815MA has been on a tear when it comes to rare news uploads. This leads me to most of a **RARE** WITN newscast from December 31st, 1980. And if you are a Weather Channel viewer, you may recognize this former OCM (on-camera meteorologist).

  6. Now imagine the holiday bonuses they could hand out if they slash Y's, too!

  7. I mean, they save $1250 across the 2 real phrases and my made up one. All 5 vowels are represented. It's the rules.

  8. WNT doesn’t really need the large Times Square space. It is a one person show with an occasional in studio reporter. Doesn’t make sense to take on the additional expense of having WNT there (although Disney owns the space, the rental money comes out of ABC News’ budget). With TV3 unavailable, and only a small temporary set available, it makes sense for GMA Weekend to move there since it needs space for 3+ anchors. Same for This Week, which needs space for multiple guests and the round table.

  9. Part 26,626 of "does the theme song matter?" A remix was played as part of warm-ups to the Flyers/Blue Jackets game on Tuesday, 2/18... It was noticed on Twitter and more. Other coverage: https://www.inquirer.com/flyers/flyers-6abc-action-news-theme-song-jim-gardner-move-closer-to-your-world-20200219.html I guess that is one way to get some free coverage outside the sports block...

  10. Never did I think I would read on here on a hope for a toned down set. Lol. I am hoping for a very sleek and modern set. — Matt

  11. I wonder if new graphics will come with the studio relaunch. I like the current music, but if they do change it, I’m hoping it’s something with a nod back to the Peter Jennings-era music. Not a fan of the direction ABC News music has been going lately.

  12. About time! I wonder how much longer until WSAZ gets a new Gray graphics package. They got a new set last year. And now that I think of it, The NBC Collection lasted nearly JUST AS LONG as Signature on WSAZ! Signature was from 1993 to 2006 and NBC Collection was from 2006 to earlier this month. It just seemed dated since the Balls & Walls lasted a good decade on WSAZ before they refreshed the look in 2003.

  13. I'm surprised there are stragglers like WSAZ that haven't switched BACK to Stephen Arnold. The way they used Signature before the great SESAC disaster of 2006 may have qualified it for the KOTA/WIVT award for longevity....
