  1. The San Francisco area stations are tag-teaming their choppers to have constant pooled aerials of the Coronavirus cruise ship docked in the harbor. Unfortunately, the CBSN Bay Area TD wasn't paying close attention and this was up for about 15 seconds.

  2. I see Springer's commentary, and raise you Carol Marin's final 10p.

  3. Are we sure that isn't the same set and not just a duratrans skyline pulled down in front of the newsroom? Looking at the '95 and '97 clips, a lot of the set elements are in the exact same spot...

  4. Yep, she left because of the Jerry Springer experiment, if you look closely during the close, you'll see a cutout of a newspaper article about her departure. BTW, those two newscasts came from this site, which has a lot more material related to Carol, including a pre-Chicago newscast at WSM-TV! https://mediaburn.org/video/ch-5-news-5197-5597/

  9. One of the best things about Sunday Morning in the '80s: the thoughtful, literate, sometimes almost poetic media commentaries by Ron Powers. Here's one from 1987 about the televised suicide of Budd Dwyer:

  11. From WVEC's channel, they posted a playlist of videos since last week marked the 40th anniversary of the "Circus Snow" (when 12 to 14 inches of snow landed just as the Ringling Brothers circus arrived in Hampton Roads). Highlights include yet another brief snippet of WVEC right at the end of the intro (with the WNT synth theme) and Judith Baroody, the reporter on the field in the first few clips, doing a piece on the "Blizzard of 1980"...in song WVEC Circus Snow of 1980 Playlist

  12. Springer's commentary made pointed references to Marin's decision to resign because of him being brought on to be a commentator for what was apparently a segment that was to feature rotating guest commentators, even suggesting it as "elitist snobbery [...] hidden in the self-righteous cries of journalistic integrity".

  13. More from btm0815ma: the full broadcasts of Sunday Morning for Dec. 6, 1981 and Dec. 2, 1984 (for which only the openings existed before; now we can see the full broadcasts of each, commercials and all)

  14. When I first saw this studio I wasn't a fan. To me it just looked like someone played a game of "how many LED elements can we cram into one space". (Maybe it was the ribbons crisscrossing the ceiling that pushed me over the edge.) The whole thing seemed designed specifically for election coverage but seemed like it would be too over the top for routine coverage. I must admit, based on how TV3 was used for this 20/20 special, that I was wrong. This studio definitely has a visual versatility that ABC lacked in its previous primary news studio. I'm still interested to see how it gets adapted for daily use but now my curiosity is based on intrigue instead of skepticism.

  15. The day the RSN business model collapses is going to have people like myself laughing at Sinclair not for their politics but because of the things I've said more than once and what @channel2 said last night on here about the lack of TV stations Sinclair can bundle the RSNs with (e.g. Sinclair doesn't have any TV stations in places like LA, Chicago, Atlanta and Miami that Sinclair can bundle the RSNs with) sure Sinclair can bundle Fox Sports Oklahoma with KOKH/KOCB but you're not going to bundle Fox Sports Wisconsin with WVTV. There are lots of factors that are playing a role in the demise of the RSNs I just think Cord Cutting is not the only issue here.

  16. here's a retrospective narrated by Pat Harvey aired at last night's 8pm news. Are you ready for this though, a real treat: CBS LA uploaded thru YT the last ever signoff of KHJ at 12am Dec 2 1989, transition to KCAL with the much clearer, ever catchy 'california 9' jingle promo. It starts at :38 tho (lord, could they have edited out cleanly at start, please) but enjoy... BTW, here's a report from Dec '89 when KHJ became KCAL after Disney's purchase. And a pre-launch of Prime 9 News in 1990. Apparently, music is based off 615 music's production library entitled 'reaching the dream' which you can search thru Warner Chappelle Prod Music's site. My question tho is what happened between Dec '89 + Mar '90, was there news still at 9 or was it temporary suspended after acquisition was completed?

  17. Sooner or later, this bubble is going to burst. The escalating cost of sports on TV coupled with the people dropping traditional pay tv in droves is coming to a tipping point. At some point it will hit the leagues themselves when the TV coverage falls when people either can't access the programming or they don't want to pay for it.
