  1. I also got the impression that Hilton Howell's letter was a middle finger to the Tegna board.

  2. Some really great uploads by btm0815ma; the clips are wonderfully curated and the descriptions have obviously been written by someone with deep knowledge of the history of TV news in this country. Do we know who btm0815ma is? Is he or she a member of this forum? Thank you for all your work if you're reading this.

  4. Exactly my thoughts, I think Gray pulled out of the bid for Tegna for reasons other than COVID-19 yes I know they said COVID was the reason but as the weeks gone on, the more I think about the reasons Gray pulled out of the running for Tegna, the more I think it wasn't neccessarily to do with COVID it had more to do with the Tegna board's arrogance and resistance for not selling, as Standard General pointed out in their presentation

  5. Tegna desperately needs new corporate leadership. If common sense prevailed, they shouldn't have spent whatever it costs to anchor "from home" only to then announce that workers are going to start getting furloughed. Now is not the time to be betraying its own workforce (or even have the appearance thereof) when they are tasked with relaying important information to viewers under difficult circumstances. There was surely a way to achieving a reasonable budget for having remote broadcasting without it leading to a situation where furloughs come into play. Or at least that's how I'm interpreting this discussion. If anything, this only further makes me convinced that Tegna needs a completely new board to lead the company--now.

  6. Tegna has been ferocious in getting its employees to work from home. Anyone that doesn't have to absolutely be in the building is going home. Many stations have had to shell some serious cash to make sure that happens.

  7. The more time passes... the more I don't hate the CBS Weekend News being anchored out of the different CBS O&O's around the country. It's kind of a neat idea if you remove the situation. However, there have been a noticeable handful of snafu's. I can't find a feed to prove it, but we noticed the CBS Weekend News ran it's open w/ countdown late on the New York Feed on Sunday, leaving our MC Op a bit miffed since we came out on the CBS feed and saw the entire countdown air. Not something the average viewer might notice, but it's just another sign of the oddity of the situation. Poor director on that show probably just had the open coded to roll at 5:00:00, not realizing it had the 10 second countdown (the usefulness of which I've always been curious about).

  8. Exactly and I think Gray is doing it the right way by recognizing that their employees should be taken care of. Tegna on the other hand, is doing it the wrong way. What Lougee needs and should worry about is making sure that his employees are taken care of and paid in full, they don't need their paychecks reduced under any circumstances

  9. Y'all want some more...Canadian news? Well, there's a lot of it in this video, which includes opens and partial shows from CBC, CTV and Global News in Saskatoon. At 1:05:00 is the Global open using Total News, which appears to actually be February 1999 (the NMSA doesn't have a sample for CFSK):
