  1. Trump losing the election is what finally shut him up. The mainstream media is done with him and his followers will follow him to the fringes of the far-right. Even Fox News sort of came to their senses by calling Arizona well before the rest of the media world. As for CNN, it's going to be interesting. Jeff Zucker threw down the gauntlet with endless coverage over a single subject starting with the missing plane, and we all know what came up next. Well, at least we have the COVID mess for likely the next 6 months to keep CNN on their toes. So sad it's come to this.

  2. We can only hope, right? Then again, even Trump refers to himself as “the golden goose” for these cable news networks. It’s hard to leave the one that brung ya...

  3. The videos were on the "WAVE 3 News" Vimeo page. They have since been deleted.

  4. Separate videos doesn't mean separate packages. These are all the same package.

  5. Politics aside, you'd have to admit the amount of cable news airtime Trump has had (especially on CNN & MSNBC) since 2015, is insane. Unfortunately, some viewers will eat that right up. Hopefully cable news, late night comedians, and comedy news hosts will diversify their content post Trump.

  6. You still think they're going to switch to that god-awful noise? Talkback 16 would be jammed!!.......

  7. Now that I have been living in the Macon market since January, I can tell you WMAZ would have to literally self destruct for either of its competitors to come close to them. They could change its news music to Rebecca Black's wretched song "Friday" and people would still watch them 4:1 over WGXA and WMGT. WGXA had given up on morning newscasts on their ABC subchannel even though my Directv listings still show them scheduled from 6-7am M-F. I don't think they have enough people on their staff for daily newscasts and they don't have the elaborate sets like their bigger Sinclair sisters. And don't me started on WMGT! They still have their weather and sports staff at their houses even during known severe weather coming to the area. They don't produce live weekend newscasts. You know your market sucks when your NBC affiliate shows a local stereo store informercial every Saturday night at 11pm instead of a newscast and on Sundays they do a recorded review of local stories from the past week.

  8. Sure seems like it... it's almost as if they decided to use a heavier drum mix of the cut as a transitional theme leading up to the rebrand. It's a lot more in your face soundiing compared to the normal newswire cuts.

  9. Interesting! So do you think that they adopted this cut as a transitional theme ahead of the Newschannel 5 rebrand?

  10. @WWUpdate@Spring Rubber The theme appears to be a custom "newswire" cut and mixout variation originally made for a series of promos with the tagline: Committed to Chicago. You can make out the newswire audio logo towards the end for a sports promo in the first commerical break at 9:42 and in the morning show tease during the second comm. break at 16:26 in the 1997 clip above. Here's another mix variation of it for a 1995 "Commited to Chicago" news promo. There may be more promos on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPtEVcnZ_sM

  12. Nice, I always have fond memories of that era. I didn't realize that the format launched without Robin Meade at the helm in the mornings. I just looked it up, and apparently Robin Meade joined CNN Headline News on 9/11/01 of all days. What the heck. Is that a sports cut of the theme because of the Bulls in the NBA Finals? Kinda has a sports cut vibe to it.

  13. WMAQ, Chicago; 6 p.m., 1997 -- w/ an unusual theme (an obscure cut of Newswire?) just days before the station adopted the Cheatwood-era Newschannel 5 branding:

  19. ABC News midterm election coverage of The '78 Vote; has Frank Reynolds in New York, Max Robinson in Chicago, Howard K. Smith in Washington, et al. Here's what the Chicago bureau looked like on that '78 midterm coverage (wide shot showing more than we usually see):

  20. Actually, I would like for all cable news networks to go away... They serve no logistical purpose other than to pollute the mainstream cycles with garbage and to blatantly grab for ratings. There is zero integrity with any of the news channels. MSNBC if they can convert to the NBC News Channel maybe, but yeah; I said what I said.
