  1. Some of the Scripps-owned ION stations did dump QVC in early January, including WPXN and KPXN. So it’s starting to look like the bulk of the HSN and QVC contracts run out at or near July 1.

  2. It should be noted that the Scripps/Katz networks and ION are all genre channels: Newsy -> all-news, no frills Grit -> westerns Laff -> sitcoms Bounce -> African American-focused Court TV -> trial coverage and analysis Court TV Mystery -> reality crime ION -> procedurals/drama Doozy -> the “true reality” A&E library Defy -> the “true reality” History library The purchase of ION Media was for the OTA clearances (and with Inyo as a de facto shell for Scripps without the need for SSAs/JSAs). ION is destined to become the flagship Scripps/Katz brand, assuredly with more acquired rerun programming and less reliance on day-long marathons of the same shows, but the genre won’t change.

  3. As has been the case for most of the last few years, I've done a mega-batch of uploads as sort of a birthday tradition. Here are some news-related examples from this batch. A short WUSA ID from November 29, 1994 featuring Maureen Bunyan 16 minutes worth of a March 1995 WAVY News 10 morning newscast (also shortly after WAVY began using Newswire) November 3, 1992 Election Night coverage recorded from Southern California (the ABC recording of the Bush and Quayle concession speeches is from KEYT in Santa Barbara and the NBC footage of the Clinton-Gore victory speeches is from KNBC in L.A.) March 21, 1991 WDSU partial NewsCenter 6 at 10

  4. She's married to a Portland police officer so she has a degree of familiarity with cop life. Her predecessor in the gig (notwithstanding the current interim spokesperson) was also an ex-broadcaster and served in the position for 32 years.

  5. I see Norah got an interview with someone who accused Governor Cuomo of sexual harassment tonight. I probably worked to Noah’s benefit that she’s a woman. That makes sense to me. I would think someone in that situation would feel more comfortable talking to a women as opposed to taking to a man.

  6. The RSNs were definitely the cause for Sinclair's woes - their timing couldn't have been worse. That said, the RSNs should in time recover and begin making a positive contribution to their bottom line once in-person attendance at sporting events returns to pre-pandemic levels. The fines are a rounding error on their bottom line by comparison.

  7. KMBC in its later days as a Metromedia station: KTIV from July 19, 1989: And WITI from 1988: Some WLYH clips from its waning years, by this point, they were only airing a 6pm newscast (the 11pm one was replaced in 1992 with syndicated programming):

  8. Keith Taylor (a big name in the Tulsa market) got the axe, WZTV's sports department wasn't the only ones that got hit hard, the Sports department at WTVC was all but pretty much wiped out, Heather Mills, Gerard Ramalho, Jerry Brown and Amber Dixon all of KSNV all of them victims of the layoffs. There's so many of them it will be difficult to A. Mention all of the ones laid off. B. It would become a list thread. I may need to create a new message thread with you about this discussion.
