  1. Number 1 isn't a reason, friend. WLKY uses Strive because all* Hearst stations use Strive. It's a group standard. *WMUR uses Hearst B because it has significant cross-coverage to WCVB.

  2. Let's be honest, it's WeatheBait. Let's call it what it is.

  3. They all suck at this point. Crappy reporting from subpar reporters and anchor rejects. It was always basic and lower tier, but had well known long time faces, that provided some comfort.

  5. It's a blend of News 12 Brooklyn/Bronx and some stories out of Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. I think News 12 NJ covers a bit of Staten Island

  6. WAVE debuted their new logo on air today. They dropped the long time WAVE 3 branding for just “WAVE”. The graphics and music remain the same.

  8. I Noticed in the middle of this article about November sweeps (https://www.nexttv.com/features/local-news-start-spreading-the-news-and-theres-lots-of-it) this line...(New York stations are hustling to get ahead in the busy market. WNBC and WNJU are moving in together. WNBC is in Rockefeller Center and WNJU in Fort Lee, New Jersey. They will share the second floor of 30 Rockefeller Center starting in fall 2023, with the massive workspace extending from 49th Street to 50th Street. It represents the final duopoly in the NBC group to co-locate. “We are excited about the collaboration that will happen between departments and department heads,” said Schwarz, who noted that WNJU will maintain a presence in New Jersey. “I’m excited to be next to Eric every day." Lerner mentioned a “gorgeous, state-of-the-art, open news operation. It’s two television stations coming together in a way that we’ve never been able to before. Both stations really deserve a new home.”) ...not sure if anyone has posted about it on here yet but I wonder if this means they are building new studios, newsrooms, etc on the 2nd floor? Combined? Studios with windows? What's on the 2nd floor now?

  9. With KTVT, WJZ, WBBM, and now KCNC all switching to First Alert Weather, I have cause to believe that this is a groupwide mandate (with the exceptions of Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami).

  10. I think the FCC and DOJ will have a handful here. This looks like a potential Sinclair-Tribune 2.0 with those question marks. Agreed, Jacksonville will get a lot of scrutiny and I think they will have to sell one of them.

  11. There's a lot of unknowns to this thing. In fact we don't even know what the ownership structure of this entity is going to be like. And even though the report did say that Apollo would keep the Cox stations separate I'm just not sure that the FCC would be convinced that they would even allow Apollo to keep the Cox stations in markets they would overlap in (Jacksonville is going to get the most attention out of the markets the two companies would overlap in). There's also another factor to it, the ownership structure (percentagewise) we don't even know how much Standard is going to own the combined company and how much Apollo would own in it as well. Still plenty of questions that with due time, will get answered.

  16. Thats what contracts are for. You cant just quit. He violated it, and a judge will side with the station for damages. Or likely, they will reach a settlement for him to pay back moving expenses etc. If they didnt enforce the contract, no one would take them seriously.

  17. It's might not be as clear cut as that, as they mentioned there was a two-year contract involved. It might have included provisions of giving an x amount of days notice to quit and vice versa to fire. Or any number of provisions that protects either party from the other in regards to terminating the contract. While New York is an at-will state, if a contract is involved, the contract's provisions trump certain employment regulations.

  20. Basically Nester runs PIX11. From management to all programming and station operations. Mission is a sham for Nester to get around ownership caps. Until the FCC or Congress decides to do something about this, they will be permitted to exist.

  21. It’s almost like viewers want the news—to do—get this—actual news. Hopefully this return to the way things were will be contagious and spread to their sister station in Dallas. But I won’t hold my breath. Maybe that’ll happen if Soo Kim/Apollo/The Cox family (what little power they have left) get their hands on TEGNA.

  22. I haven’t paid too much attention to KUSA lately, but I noticed they’ve rebranded their morning show from “Mile High Mornings” back to simply “9News Mornings.” They’ve also brought back the “Colorado’s News Leader” tagline, and it seems like they’re starting to use the KTVD callsign in the KTVD branding. It seems like they’re trying to go back to a more sober and authoritative brand unlike…*gestures broadly* whatever they’ve been doing the last few years.

  23. Anyone seeing FNC and Laura Ingraham tonight on the O&O's after Fox primetime (or before on the West Coast)? I put on WITI to get the weather, and saw FNC on the air rather than the local 9pm show. I don't think this is the smartest thing to do tonight by any means.

  24. Two reasons: 1. WLKY uses Strive 2. CBS Local has been used on non-CBS affiliates before

  25. You would've thought they would drop The Rock for something different. I think CBS Local might've worked. The new logo on the standard Gray website banner is atrocious. Change the colour of the logo, now.
