  1. More like Soo Kim trying to perform CPR on a cadaver.

  2. I imagine since it's rolling dayside news coverage and not a personality-based show, they aren't teasing it. Dayside is essentially "have it on in the background"/"check in occasionally" programming vs. the more opinionated primetime shows or the morning offerings (where the most eyeballs are).

  3. All newscasts are now on a green screen again showing a recorded loop of the newsplex. The refreshed newsplex will make its debut along with a new graphics and music package in the very near future.

  4. This is worse behavior than even Sinclair had! Soo Kim and Standard General will never own or be involved in television again, mark my words. No one will want to get involved with them.

  5. I’m thinking Gayle’s CNN thing is gonna work like how Anderson Cooper does 60 Minutes.

  6. Vlad seems like a nice guy, good for him. This reminds me of when CTM tried to add a fourth person with Bianna Golodryga. This might work as Vlad would be heavily involved in the program doing features more so than the actual fourth host. It does seem like CBS Mornings/CTM is rather unsettled however.

  7. So it’s not just WBTV. For a while after Gray bought Raycom WBTV only had Nate Wimberly. About the time Delano retired Ashley Strohlein went to WCNC to replace Kelsey Riggs who went to ACCN/ESPN. They now also have Cam Gaskins but isn’t the same as when Paul and Delano was there, and Jim Thacker before Paul but that was before my time. I’m rooting for CBS to give 10-11pm to the affiliates so WBTV can give Football Friday Night a real show again (at least 30 minutes on actual TV) and not 20 minutes during the 11pm news and 15 minutes online. It is a far cry from when it was an hour. CBS made them run The Late Show in pattern every night but I’m not so sure part of it isn’t Gray too. Delano is now with Bahakel Sports.

  8. In Charlotte the leading news stations WBTV and WSOC no longer have a regular sports segment on their newscasts. On WSOC the sports anchor Phi Orban is a news anchor on the weekends and only covers the NFL Panthers and NBA Hornets as warranted, with no daily sports segment. Back in the day, these stations had strong sports anchors Jim Thacker, Paul Cameron, Delano Little and Harold Johnson. WCNC and WJZY now have the most sports coverage.

  9. Surprisingly, Mobile/Pensacola is one of the only Sinclair markets to have not moved LMA/SSA station feeds to their owned and operated stations. That could be with WPMI's NBC affiliation, and if it is contractually tied to WPMI, and cannot be moved to WFGX or WEAR as a primary or secondary subchannel, much like Sinclair has done in other markets like Columbus and Charleston. Meanwhile, stations like WALA continue to run away with expanding their local programming, and with the recent cancellations of Dr. Phil, Judge Mathis, and the People's Court, there goes the last of their daily syndication, clearing the way for Gray to put the KVVU model of news from sunrise to sunset. FTVLive picked up on a Twitter thread from a former employee, describing his experience working at WPMI, and how the belt tightening has been going on for a while now... https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2023/3/26/sinclair-continues-to-cut

  10. If you've only watch WSB to be informed about Atlanta since 1991, you probably have never wavered from North Georgia being a worst place to live than the actual country of Georgia, everybody is ripping you off and Clark Howard is a one-man army protecting Atlantans from fraud, and that the Olympics never happened and the Georgia Dome never existed, much less MBS; graphics also got really annoyed about having to change the state flag graphic even once. They have, and will never, change, and the day they become 'ABC2' will be on par with the moment General Sherman entered the city limits. (I'm exaggerating but when I look at WSOC's current 2002 weather graphics I feel physical pain and Cox has more a true art department than a graphics department)

  11. With respect, according to these numbers WXIA has held fairly consistent. They went from 9% share of news viewers in the demo to 8%. Since WSB states the figures are rounded, that could mean WXIA had an 8.6% share in June 2022 and an 8.4% share in February 2023. A decrease to be sure, but hardly a huge stumbling. As for the supposed gains for WANF, they aren't reflected in these numbers. WANF's performance held steady with WGCL's share. Very slight increase for WPCH. While I like WANF's new approach, it hasn't moved the needle...yet.

  12. I’d pay more attention to WSB, now under the control of a disinterested private equity firm and with little incentive to have the station progress from being perpetually stuck in 1993.

  13. With all due respect, I doubt their ownership situation had anything to do with their ratings. Most viewers don’t know or care which station group is being sold to whom. I’d attribute it to WANF gaining traction in the market with their new product.

  14. WEAR is much higher-rated and they tend to focus more on the Florida side of the market.

  15. Considering WLBT's Civil Rights Era history of being unapologetically racist to the point of FCC license revocation threats and an entire housecleaning of management...no sympathy for Barbie here. If this is some other station and an outlier incident, a warning would be fine, but she should know both her station's turbulent history and her own HR issues of the past.

  16. I'm sure he has weasel language in all the contracts about what happens if the FCC doesn't approve the sale. If anything, he's trying to avoid the breakup fee which I think is a couple hundred million dollars. I'd take him to court over it just to teach the next bankster who tries to pull something like this a lesson.

  18. Somewhat related. This guy cut commercials to 5 minutes per hour at his Fresno radio stations. He says he can do that because he doesn't have any debt, unlike Cumulus and iHeart. The Wolfes used to say that having no debt was an important part of their success at WBNS and WTHR. Standard General will have debt, lots of it. Thus, a race to the bottom as they try to stay afloat. Soo Kim can pound salt. https://radioink.com/2023/03/22/john-ostlund-five-minute-stopsets/

  19. And here we are when REPEATS of syndication are being kept on the air (Judge Judy) and prime time is reboots of old shows from the 80s and 90s. It makes the whole "season 9 was all a dream" that Dallas pulled off in the 80s with the death and return of Patrick Duffy that much more plausible these days.
